Choppy Playback - video not "fluid"

I have read all the threads and see all the issues (which is extremely pathetic but that is another thread). I am wondering if anyone has gotten the set top box to play back converted DVD videos correctly. I have updated the firmware to the latest 1.0.4.6 (was shipped with 1.0.4.1 after 5 months).

I have many DVDs I have copied to my external USB drive via DVDFab - I have the main movie only. I have not converted any of the videos as this device is supposed to play DVD files. Any movie I play back is not "fluid", it is slightly jerky and choppy - unwatchable like watching a silent movie from the 1930's. Any "fast moving" scenes are really bad. I have tried all the different playback settings of which turning any on only made it worse where the video showed pixelation.

So I wanted to see if anyone has been able to watch DVD files normally. I put these on a 300GB USB2 drive and have hooked the unit to my TV with the HDMI cable. Audio playback is fine and in sync with the video (as long as you don't pause, fast forward, rewind or jump chapters). I attach the same USB drive to my laptop and export the display to my TV via the HTML cable the video playback is perfect (so I doubt there is an issue with the USB speed).

Thoughts, suggestions, comments (beside this device is a piece of shit). The menus are slow and obviously there is absolutely no instructions on use or settings (the manual is a joke).

I am curious if I have to wait for a while for a few more upgrades before the unit is even close to usable.

    Thanks.
