Need some help operating this set top box.

Hi beautiful people:

tl;dr

- How does one change the resolution of the home screen?
- What video and audio formats does the box support?

Long version:

I just received the set top box, installed it, updated it... and here is where I have stumped.

I have not managed to figure out how to do something as simple as change the home screen resolution yet...

I have gone to System > Settings > System > Video Output, set it to 1080p but the resolution remains 1280*720.

I have not been able to browse my WHS2011 shared folders either... I put the IP address of the server: resource not found, I write the full path \\<nameofserver>\<sharedresource> same result.

Edit: Tried the YouTube client to check if I could get any functionality at all out of the box... upon selecting a video, any random video (tried 5 times with 5 different ones) freezes the box... I have to remove power completely to restore functionality.

Edit2: Resolved two of the issues myself...

OK, tried to play an .mkv file from attached thumbrive (720p/x264/AC3):

1st Attempt: Unit reboots.
2nd Attempt: Plays, but @ 2x speed.
3rd Attempt: Unit reboots.

maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!

Tomorrow more and better.

Got this unit as a present for a friend, at this point I think I may have to rethink my intent as I would much like to keep her friendship and not end up wearing this set top box as an ornament partially embedded in my skull.

On a side note read all my posts in other threads, yes this has problems that will either be fixed or replaced or have lots of P!!!!!!! people at them, forever.

Glad you got a chuckle or two out of it

If time is what they need so be it... I will put the box in "cold storage" until a new version of the OS is released.

Also now that I have gotten a different solution for my friend (it became glaringly obvious yesterday that the vidon.me is not anywhere near "field ready") and this contraption has entered the category of "toy to experiment with" I am happy to beta test anything they can churn, I have a high frustration threshold when it comes to non mission-critical devices
