No I need a new LiteOn as mine died on me and plan to get 2 other DVD drives as well.

But for now I can tell you the Media Code for the DVDs now

    DVD+R 16X JVC-TAIYO YUDEN ARCHIVAL GRADE (25 PCS) are YUDEN000-T03-00

    DVD-R 16X JVC-TAIYO YUDEN ARCHIVAL GOLD (25 PC) are TYG03

    DVD-R 16X JVC-TAIYO YUDEN PREMIUM GOLD BRANDED (50 PCS) are TYG03

I will post the scans later as I do not have the disc scan utility installed and am doing some testing with another program at the moment

Interesting, if I' not mistaken or at least from what I've seen of the media codes my way. Usually when I get ValueLine TY's they are TYG03's. When I get the Premium (CakeBox's) they are usually TYG02's. But I have gotten TYG02 in ValueLine stacks on occasions.

I always burn my TY's at 8X, what speed did you burn these at (you can post that when you post he DiscSpeed images.

Also if I remember correctly (but don't trust my memory) do you post images via attachemts or do you use a hosting site like ImageShack. Not sure if it's a benefit for the forum, I think ya'll have a size restriction on attachments anyway, right ?

First, Thanks for taking the time to post the info/scans could be very useful to others.

What surprises me is the cost, the 50 pcs same price as the 25 pcs. Scans are all VERY GOOD and not that far apart, why such a difference in price is odd !!

Just out of curiosity I added to cart and check the shipping cost to Nevada

                www.canadapost.ca $ 77.27 (what's that, 1-hour delivery ... $77 ... LOL ... )
                Wednesday January 06, 2010 $ 26.53
                Tuesday January 12, 2010 $ 19.23

What are you paying for shipping AGJ ? $5-10 ?

For USA customers, looks like Meritline has the best BASE price (didn't check shipping cost at each)
                VD-R47HGS50 http://www.google.com/products?q=VD-...l=en&scoring=p

                SMS $18.99 shipped (.38 ea)
                Meritline 11.99 + 5.86 = $17.85 (.36 ea)

There is a BIGGER savings if you get 100 or 300 at once from SMS. It puts them in the same cost as the PREMIUM TYG02 cake boxes we all know and love !

I will be keeping my eye on these to see when they go on sale, but I'm set for quite a while.

AGJ, Is the surface of DVD-R 16X JVC-TAIYO YUDEN PREMIUM GOLD BRANDED (50 PCS) totally gold as shown on Meritline, are is there some sort of branding ? ? ?

My preference is to have a completely blank surface like the "Thermal Lacquer" discs so I can label with my sharpie:

I just bought 2 stacks of Valueline's from SMS, but the next time I need discs I will try the PREMIUM GOLD (VD-R47HGS50)

                .

the shipping cost for the order that these came in was only $16.89 for standard shipping. I ordered 1 of each for the JVC Archival and 1 of the Premium grade I also ordered my usual TY DVD+R 8X media as well . The JVC are Branded with gold surface and I would upload pictures but they too big for that

Try "IrfanView", you'll be glad you did !!! IrfanView is a very fast, small, compact and innovative FREEWARE (for non-commercial use) graphic viewer for Windows 9x, ME, NT, 2000, XP, 2003 , 2008, Vista, Windows 7.

It can convert the images to a SMALLER size .... VERY EASY ! I use it to convert/view all my HOME digital pictures !!

And as I suggested in previous posts .... upload to ImageShack to host your images so you don't have to attach them here !!

                    Cheers

I don't like using imageshack but I will give that freeware a try and post the 2 pics I took of the DVDs

well here are 2 pictures showing the branding of the DVD-R and the DVD+R are the same as well. Also the DVD from meritline are branded as well just click the picture image on the link you supplied and you can see the branding right under the meritline logo. I hope you can see the image ok as they pretty small due to the size limitations for here.

Yeah I see that now after looking more closely, all I saw originally was the Mertiline logo/watermark impossed on the image/JPG.

THX for positing the pics too.

Looks as thought I could still use a Sharpie on problem.

I use Sharpie's on the Verb DL's and they have a lot more branding. But at least it's only an etching effect.

You don't have to try, but one thing I would like to know ..... if you did apply a Sharpie pen (I use Ultra Fine, Blue) can it be removed via Isopropyl Alcohol and a soft napkin/tissue.

Sometimes I make mistakes or when I get a sequel, I will renumber the label on the first one so the backups are together in the case !!!

I don't have any Isopropyl Alcohol around the house so not able to try but I do use fine point and Ultra fine point sharpies to label them

No Isopropyl Alcohol ..... BEST thing for cleaning DVD's before extracting and removing Sharpie mistakes ..... get some .... I keep a lot on hand (70%), very inexpensive at the drug store.
