Most of the WH60NS40s out there have ROM Ver 1.03 and WH060NS60s are 1.01. Buy the 40 and replace with 60's 1.00, user cholla here has the link to 60 1.00.

You can buy 2 WH60NS40s for the price of 1 WH60NS60. LOL!

Hilarious, WH60NS60 is indeed a WH60NS40 with the new "Ultra HD Blu-ray" printed front bezel.

I was able to cross flash a WH60NS40 drivewith WH60NS60 ROM Ver 1.00 firmware.

1)First I only replace the stock WH60NS60's 1.00 firmware 0x001E8000 to 0x001E8FFF section with the dumped 0x001E8000 to 0x001E8FFF from WH60NS40 which is unique for that WH60NS40 drive. I don't replace the 0x001E9000 to the end (this is the burning strategy section), so effectively it is Wh60NS60 ROM Ver 1.00 on WH60NS40.
2)Then I replace 0x001E9000 to the end with the dumped 0x001E9000 section from the original WH60NS40 ROM Ver 1.03, the net effect is WH60NS60 ROM Ver 1.00 with WH60NS40 ROM Ver 1.03 burning strategy. the original WH60NS40 1.03 has better burning BD/DVD strategy for some low quality discs. WH60NS60 1.00 burning strategy is faster than (about 5 minutes faster for burning 100GB BD-RE triple layer discs took 3 hours to burn) WH60NS40 1.03's but create more coasters for low quality discs, my standalone Bluray player cannot play those low qulity discs burned by WH60NS60 1.00 or WH60NS40 1.02 or earlier.

By combining the 40's burning strategy with 60's 1.00, this makes the WH60NS40 drive a 60 (show up as WH60NS40 ROM 1.00 on IMGBURN) yet with 40's better burning strategy.

Save yourself $55 to $60 bucks, the price difference between the WH60NS40 ($50 to $60) and WH60NS60 ($115). Both use the Mediatek chip MT1959.

I took parts from 3 to 5 computers to try to get it to work and finally got the one with Win 7 1156 chipset to work, plus I backed up everything (not just data, the entire Win nvme or ssd drives) first, it took me a long time. I put everything back together. I know what work now, so I am going to picks a few parts from that auction place to make that setup dedicated to try the WH16NS60 and firmware mod in the future.

Side note, I think "Ultra HD Blu-ray Advisor" might install something evil malicious on my system. My advice is don't install that piece of junk.

It wasn't that bad for me.
My Dell has quick remove optical drives.
So all I had to do was remove one side panel on the case.
Then unplug all the SATA ports & the cables to one optical drive.
Plug those into the optical drive being flashed & to the main primary SATA port.
I didn't install the quick mount bolts because I wasn't going to leave the WH16NS40 in the Dell.
    It all looked pretty organized.
Then I used my Lenovo tower to create the bootable flash drive & do the HEX edit work.
So this definitely works better with two computers.

Stay tune, I am waiting for a few old PC part bought off that big auction site to arrive so I don't have to tear up my current systems to try this. My library room looked like a lab full of computer parts took out of my computers when I tried last time. I will try to cross flash the 60 and 40 to see if it works like

    60 firmware on 40
    40 firmware on 60

FYI, don't buy WH16NS60. I believe the WH16NS60 is just another WH16NS40 with stricter firmware.

The UHD disc shows up as BDROM with blank folder on 60 whereas 40 (mod or ROM Ver 1.02 or earlier) can see the whole disc of folders/files and content like AACS, BDMV and CERTIFICATE.
