Windows 8 and Incomplete Install?

I had pretty good luck on Windows 8 (before I dumped it) by selecting "Save As" and saving it to the desktop. Then right clicking on the installer and selecting "Run As Administrator". Never try to install from the web site.

Yeah I've tried that and a number of other things.

- Downloaded with and without a download manager

- Tried running from Downloads Folder and from Desktop

- Tried running as Admin from a non-admin account

- Tried running from within Admin account and still using the "Run As" on the .exe

Don't know what's going on?

The Installer basically gets to 99.99% complete then just freezes machine when it says "Finalizing Installation..."

Only happens in Windows 8 on this machine, when I put back an old Windows 7 Image it works???

My 2 other Intel Windows 8 PC's don't suffer this problem.

Hi All,

I'm experiencing this install freeze too with both v9.0.2.6 & v8.2.2.7.

Running Windows 8 Pro 64bit with Media Center
AMD 1090t
ATI 5870
12 GB RAM
2 x 1TB HDD (no SSD in system)

I've disabled Windows Defender before the install and it still locks up when finalizing the installation.

I've tried a fresh install of Windows 8 and this problem happens everytime and the system will not recover no matter how long I leave it.

The same system did not experience these problems when running Windows 7.

However, I have 2 other Intel systems running Windows 8 and neither of them have experienced this issue.

Thanks for the idea, there were a few things on startup for the intel graphics. I disabled everything on startup (including java updater, etc). Unfortunately I still had the same problem!

I suppose I just need to get used to DVDfab v9...

I have one last idea, I still think it is a conflict of some type.
Start Task Manager and click the startup tab (works like msconfig on earlier versions) and disable everything there. Defender is a service and an integral part of Windows 8 so you are still protected. Reboot and see if Fab installer is conflicting with something loading on start up.

Well, I left the install program running for about 8 hours and my computer was still locked up.

Then I tried to run the install under with compatibility settings for Windows 7. It still locked up, but when I tried to run the executable file in the install directory it briefly started and stopped and I got this log:

When I looked at my log for ver 9.0.1.6, the next step after "Init profile data driver sucessful" is "Init GPU settings sucessful". So it seems that it could be a GPU issue.

I am running an i7 3770K with Intel HD 4000 graphics--no discrete graphics card. Are you guys also using Intel HD 4000 by any chance?

Did your computer freeze for those few hours? I can't even move the mouse...

I can move my mouse sometimes when installing DVDFav but not always. I cannot interact with my PC, but: every maybe 5-10 minutes all actions performed (double clicks etc.) are executed at once for about 5 seconds. A windows explorer window may open in that short timeframe or a window may move. After that, the PC does not respond again.

I switched to Bitdefender shortly - after being annoyed by Avasts advertisements on my desktop (free version). I tried to disable the software before installing DVDFab products with no luck. DVDFab installs are the only moments I experience hangups.

I am using Windows Defender also. Support had me disable that to see if it helped but it did not...

What AV software are you guys running? I've about come to the conclusion that Windows 8 and third party anti-virus programs don't play nice together. I bought my wife a new laptop for Christmas and of course it had W8 on it and a trial subscription of Norton. Her lap top would just hang on various tasks and installs and just wouldn't run Outlook hardly at all. She was unhappy to say the least, and after finding out BitDefender is a no go I decided to uninstall Norton and enable Windows Defender that comes with Windows 8 and her machine is now smooth as silk. My W8 laptop is using Windows Defender and I just downloaded and installed DVDFab v8 and it took longer to download than to install. Just saying.

I tried letting it go for a while, but maybe it was only an hour and a half or so. I'll try to leave it alone overnight to see what happens, I suppose.

I tried compatibility mode and administrator rights... Version 9 installs fine, Passkey shows the same problem, but "only" takes about 15 minutes to complete.

Support had me try to install as administrator, in safe mode, and with firewall and antivirus off. All resulted in the same situation. 8.2.2.5 locks up my computer when the install gets to "finalizing installation".

I have version 9 working, but version 8 is so much better...

Fresh install of Win 8 pro (Samsung 830 128 GB no raid) and 8.2.2.5 Qt locks up the computer at finalizing installation. I got version 9 to work, but that crashed during a conversion (1080p blu-ray mkv to H.264).

I tried waiting a few hours but that didn't help. Also tried the "refresh" mentioned in the last post. I think when it says missing files during the refresh it just means it needs the install files from the DVD--I don't think it means there were missing files in the original installation.

I'm stuck now and I really would like to get this to work. Has anyone contacted support for this issue?

well dvdfab 8 does install on win8 pro, you have to refresh your pc(atleast that is what I did) to install some missing files(apparently) from windows.
After I did a refresh the program installed like it should and is working good.
