Can't Copy DVD of My Kid's Performance

My kids performed in a competition a couple of weekends ago. We bought a DVD of the thing and would like to rip it so we can watch it with the rest of our home videos, but it seems like it has some sort of primitive copy protection, so there's all sorts of blocky garbage at the bottom of the screen. The top 3/4s to 7/8s of the screen is fine.

Also, considering it was direct to DVD, it looks like it's interlaced.

Anyway, anyone got any suggestions for ripping low-rent 'homemade' DVDs?

    Thanks,
    Peter

I'm looking in the ripping menus, video effects and conversion settings and I don't see a "Clone Feature" option anywhere.

Where would I find this, and how does it help rip a video to a file?

The "Clone" option is in the Copy portion of DVDFab. It's for ripping and burning DVDs as-is. Are you trying to make copies of the DVD? Or are you trying to make a file on your computer's hard drive?

click on the blue square on the left side of the program where it says "full disc"
          and just select clone/burn option

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. I wanted to rip it to a file, not burn another CD copy. It's when I rip the file that all the junk shows up at the bottom.

And it's not like, at the bottom, off the frame. It overlaps the actual content.

That's the relevant section of the log. The actual log goes back four or five years so I don't want to post the whole thing.

If you need the whole log, I can create a brand new one and try to rip again. But this looks like it has all the data...
