Other Working with Full Disc Blu-Ray Copy--which software to Mount this type of copy?

    Hi there Everyone,

I'm a complete noob to archiving my Blu-Ray discs, and I'm confused as to how best to employ the Full Disc Copy feature. Naturally, I want backups of all my discs, so the feature appeals to me. What are some examples of programs I can use to actually watch one of these Full Disc Copies? And how would I go about using the FDC to create an MKV? It shouldn't be that hard to use it that way, right? Also, are there significant disadvantages to using FDC versus creating an ISO file, which seems to be more widely compatible? If I wanted to create ISOs instead, would DVDfab be able to help me, or would I need something more like Daemon Tools Ultimate?

One of the other things I'm frustrated about at the moment is that I have no idea how I would burn a new, backup BD using the FDC. As I said, very much a noob when it comes to FDC.

As far as paid software goes, I have CyberLink PowerDVD 22, DVDfab 13, and Daemon Tools Ultimate. I also use VLC Media Player (for playing most things) and HandBrake (for reducing MKV file size).

Thank you in advance for any help. If there are any guides on here that specifically answer my questions, you might point me to those; otherwise, I hope people will try to answer directly. Best wishes!

Ok, I figured out, finally, that ExplorerFab can be used to successfully mount these full copies of discs. Still uncertain of what else to do with the folders, though. If i created a 1:1 copy and just burned the folder + Setup Information file to a disc, would that disc be readable by a typical drive?

DVDFAB full disk copy can output either a directory structure or an ISO. I prefer the ISO output myself as it is just more convenient to have a single file rather than many files in a directory structure.

I believe most software players can handle an ISO file. I use VLC myself. I also use a streaming device that can play them back, but I usually extract the main movie to an MKV for that system.

Full Disk copy will not create an MKV file. You can, however, use the DVDFAB ripping tool {or other software) to remove the main movie to an MKV (or extract the individual episode of a TV series to individual MKV files)

Full disk copy can be used to burn a copy of a disk from an ISO or folder structure. However, I have found the DVDFAB burning engine to be a bit unreliable. so, to burn a backup copy to another blank disk, I use IMGBurn. You can find it from many download sites on the internet, is free, and very reliable. You can also tell DVDFAB to use IMGBurn rather than it's own burning engine, See the setting menu.
