I don’t know that OS, but it might be of a vintage that doesn’t have all the C++ run time components. Microsoft has a C++ redistributable package available for free download that improves your ability to run C++ developed software if it doesn't. Even if it doesn’t fix your problem it won’t hurt a thing to install it. Google it.

Very good advice as I see many users that are running old service packs that may be missing updates for programs to run correctly.
Even if it's a little thing, do something for those who have need of help, something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it.

While it is a nice for maintenance, I highly doubt it would solve the problem.
Version 7.0.3.0 runs fine on Windows 2000 (just had to install GDI+ redistributable, but it's not required for XP).

I don’t know for sure it will fix the OP’s problem, but like I said it won’t hurt to have the latest libraries always centrally available to the executable.

                  I'm back.

Ok, back from the beach, browner and calmer. And yes, 90312, a balmy 24C.

Just to re-iterate, I'm running XP Home Version 2002 Service Pack 3. I already have SP3 WitchRayc.

                  This is what I did:
a: Checked in my Programs list that I had all the latest .net frameworks installed, together with the Microsoft 2008 C++ redistribution pack. I checked in the list under "Add and Remove software" because I got some error messages when I installed them. Apparently Microsoft are aware of this happening and say that the error messages can usually be ignored. That was the case with me.

b: I downloaded the latest beta version of the DvdFab software from the link provided in the forum and saved it to hard disc.

c: I switched off my Trend Micro personal firewall.

d: I ran the exe file as administrator and unchecked the "Protect my computer from nasty viruses" box.

e: The software installed and a drop down menu offered to change the DMA settings to get the software to run better. (I had looked at those before but never mind, I said yes, change away.)

f: I switched my firewall back on. Not sure if that was a factor but just thought I might as well try it. Dvd Fab is now added as trusted software within the Trend Micro list. That way when it looks for the latest update I shouldn't get any "Block this?" queries.

I now have the trial version 7 up and running and have a generous month to try it out before I buy. YIPPEE. I still get the welcome screen of course, but now when I hit "Start Dvd Fab" after about 10-15 seconds it actually does so.

Thanks everyone for sticking by me. This package is amazing.
