Problem copying 22.5 GB to a 25 GB disc

I am trying to backup my old BD copy of Brokeback Mountain - 31.3 GB - but DVDFab is not following directions.

By eliminating foreign languages and HD sound, I was able to bring the size of the "movie only" down to 22.5 GB; which should fit on a 25 GB disc. HOWEVER, when I start copying, the system automatically starts to compress the file as if it were taking into account the full 31.3 GB - An 8 hour prospect.

I have done this before and DVDFab has copied only what will fit into a 25 GB disc to the HD. I then burn it to disc thereafter, and all this takes less than 1 hour for the entire process to finish.

DVDFab is automatically going to "22.28.25 - video reencode rate bitrate 20905 kbps" instead of going directly to "Source (00024 m2ts)."

    Has anyone encountered something similar?

...well there's your problem right there. j/k

have you tried using Imgburn (by itself)? It should only burn, no chance for any re-encoding.

Try setting movie only to BD50, and it should copy the movie and audio you want without reencoding.
You can also try changing the target size to 23000 Gb. and leave it set to BD25 and see if it wants to reencode. It must be borderline on the size, so a minor tweak is all it needs to get by. I tried this for a movie at 97% and when i changed the target to 23000 Gb, i avoided rencoding, and it burned fine with IMG burn.

I only have one BD burner so I would have to get the movie on my HD before burning it with ImgBurn to a 25 GB disc, right? That is just what DVDFab is not doing - copying the reduced 22.5 GB file to the HD. Instead it insists on trying to compress the full 33.3 GB.

Now, I may be totally misunderstanding you, but are you saying that if I get another BD burner, I could burn from one burner to another - provided I got the size of the movie to less than 23000 on one of them?

No what Crackinhedz and bmiller are saying is copy the entire movie to your HDD as a 50gb movie, then put your 50gb file as the source and your output will be your HDD again and compress to 25gb, this will save wear and tear on your burner!! Then when you have the 25gb file open up ImgBurn and select write files. Select the BMDV that you just made and it will ask if you want to include the certificate say yes and burn away!! Crackinhedz was suggesting to use ImgBurn by its self! You are correct if you want to add another burner but thats not what anyone was instructing you to do!!

I don't think that is what they meant insomuch as I tried what B Miller said, and it worked!

I got rid of all extras I didn't want and got the file down to 22.5 GB from 33.3 GB. I then changed the number in the box at the bottom of the DVDFab screen from 25 GB to 50 GB. I copied it as "movie only" and there was no need to compress anything because DVDFab copied just the 22.5 GB I had chosen. Afterward I burned it to a blank 25 GB disc using ImgBurn and the backed up copy looks just like the original. This took less than 1 hour.

            Thanks, guys.

Thank you so much! I already had changed the target size to 23000. However, I followed your instructions and it worked like a charm. Generally I don't have to go the 50 GB route, but it's nice to know this trick in case DVDFab gets "confused" in the future. Thanks again.
