I have my copy of Dredd 3d that I would like a backup of. Will just doing a clone copy onto a dual layer disc create a disc that is the same as the master?

Chaxlee1:Just so you know under Fabs settings under blu-ray copy settings 9th setting down that's already checked by default is the (enable blu-ray 3d only disk to play on 2d display) so if you wanted to play such a disk you can without making a 50 gig iso.Last edited by glenns; 02-08-2013, 06:31 AM.

@glens,
You seem to be very good at this. Could you please give step by step instructions on how to backup a 3D main movie. Here is my post as to what I've done so far.
Since I've been using DVDFab (for more years than I wish to count), I've never been stumped like I am with this 3D copying!
Thanks for any help you can give!!!

How to make a 3d disk.
First make sure Fab burning engine is selected in Fabs software settings.
Second-Take store brought 3d blu-ray make sure its clean no fingerprints, dust dirt or scratches this is a important step so clean disk even if it looks clean.
Third-Put store brought disk in burner and clone disk to hard drive using blu-ray copy select clone or burn in version 9.This makes a 50 gig exact copy minus the copy protection and is put in Fabs folder named clone.
Forth-Take this file and put in Blu-ray copy You can make a 50 or a 25 gig full disk, main movie or side by side. The full disk includes everything on disk, the main movie is just the main movie both can be made in full 3d meaning 1080p in each eye the same as the store brought disk is.
The side by side is not a blu-ray but 1080 in one eye with the other eye less resolution. They can be put on blu-ray disks.Advantage is you don't need a 3d blu-ray player to play a side by side movie just need a 3d tv or 3d monitor and a regular blu ray player for 25 gig disks or if compressing to less than 25 gig with blu-ray ripper then a regular dvd player can play side by side 3d if it supports the format.Newer one's may.I think all blu-ray players will support side by side.Your 3d tv must also support side by side most do..If you have 3d ripper you can compress side by side to any size disk. The 3d effects are the same. They also look great even compressed to 8.5 gig 2 layer disks on a large screen tv.Your pushing it on 4.5 gig regular dvd's but it can be done also maybe kids won't know the difference.
Now at the bottom of the page there's a small box that says 50 gig that's the default setting and is a drop down box when clicked here you select 25 gigs if you want a 25 gig disk. This is for full disk or side by side for main movie you select this first in blu-ray copy then you can take out sound tracks you don't want then check the 25 gig box on the bottom of page and hit next it brings you to the 3d page their 3d is already selected for you this will make a full 3d disk.Just make sure that little box at the bottom of the page that 25 gig is selected if not you get a 50 gig copy uncompressed.
Now put a blank 25 gig in your burner drive fab will take it from here and compress the movie and do the burn for you if the disk is in the drive. If you don't have the disk in the drive the disk can be burned later by putting the new made 22-24 gig compressed 3d folder (that should be in full disk or main movie folders in the Fab program files)put it in write data and burn the disk always make sure you do this with Fabs burning engine that gets set in software before you even make the 50 gig iso from the store brought disk or you won't get a 3d disk Fabs burning engine burns the 3d files on the disk and img burn can do this only if you made a 25gig iso during the compression stage so only if you made a 25 gig ISO can you use img burn to do the burn. It's better to compress and burn in the Fab program all at once if you were to ask me.Once you start going to other programs to do the burn they may have higher burn speeds that's a bad thing burning the disk to fast leeds to a lot of problems and reason it won't play in other players.
Fabs program files is where the log files are under log, their Fab records each step of the process in case something goes wrong if so you can cut and paste the log file for the movie you just done and put it in a post so staff or user's can look at them to see if their are errors or fab bugs to be fixed it's a great help when something goes wrong. The newest made file is the last one at the bottom all files for all disks made are here unless you delete them.
Their is another file called the burn log this file tells a lot about the burner you used we can check to see if your burner software is out of date or if your burn speed is set to high and other things so also include a burn log when something goes wrong with burning a 3d disk like no 3d etc.Again cut and past only the part of the file that you had trouble with the newest movie done is the top log in this case.Their dated also to make them easy to find.
Sounds hard but its like riding a bike after you get the hang of it.When done their are two copy's of the same movie in Fab folders the 50 gig iso and the 25 gig compressed movie you just made. They will still be their so you can make another copy or delete them.Their in two different folders.Last edited by glenns; 02-10-2013, 05:34 AM.

In above how to make a 3d movie if you pick full disk your choice's are 25 gig or 50 gig in the small drop down page at the bottom of the page.If your making just the main movie the drop down box at the bottom of the page lets you choice any size disk and also 1080p or 720p resolutions or even dvd resolutions. So their are differences with different choices with each.I said the choices were in 3d ripper by mistake because of the 45 min. time limit being expired before i could make the change i wasn't able to edit that post to include this information and hope people read this correction before they go about making a 3d blu-ray.

@glenns:
Thanks so much for the detailed reply which I am following exactly.
My first try didn't fair too well as I think my .iso file was made when the burner was set to imgburn and then changed later. What happened was when it started to burn, the disc popped out and is showed that the process was completed. The disc, however was blank.
I am now starting all over again with the burner pointing to DVDFab Burning Engine. Will post the results

Ok the burn the log shows the disk did not have enough room to complete.
(14:34:03 Error No enough space to hold data. 12302976 > 12219392) the difference is .83584 between what your empty disk is and the size of the file.
If you are using a rewritable disk change to a write once disk as they hold more because they are formatted differently. If your using a write once disk try another disk maybe the one your using has something on it already.
My blank 25 gig Digistor disks write once hold 23.3 gigs empty it also seems to me from the logs that fab is making the file a tad to large also so if you have no luck we can do other things to make the file smaller like cutting the last chapter or burning to end of disk in img burn but that only works for a small overage and we will have to turn your file back into a 25gig iso to do this so try a different disk first.
Also this disk as well as all Sony new movies has Cinavia it will play for 20 mins. on a infected by Cinava 3d player then mute the audio. You have to play it on a uninfected blu-ray 3d player(search the forum for models) or use a media player or uninfected software player to view it on your computer.
Put the 25 gig compressed file not the (50 gig iso) back into Fab and select write data or burn in version 9 of fab and report back here.Last edited by glenns; 02-10-2013, 09:44 PM.

Go back into the fab made compressed file before you try another disk and put your mouse over it if the size is 24.027 then changing disks won't do anything as the file is to big and it's a fab bug that's been around for awhile in blu-ray ripper. In blu-ray ripper the making the files to big to fit is still unfixed.I am not surprised to see it happen in blu-ray copy also.
If this is the case and the file is 24.027 then on the top of the fab page in the forum you will see a pull down box that says support scroll down to contact, hit contact a fab form to report issue to developers is their for you to fill out.
Include both logs in that form and explain that fab made file is to big to fit the disk.Send this form in they will normally reply within 2 days but they are in spring fest until 2/16/13 so the response may be delayed till they get back.
Sometimes they will fix it in the next released version of fab and sometimes a few versions latter. This one should go on the high priority list as what good is the program if you can't use it to make backups that fit regular blu-rays.
They may also tell you to make the 25 gig disk using all software
That may work if you like to give it a try.Go into fabs settings and under general settings click on GPU settings then check the box to disable all GPU codecs this set everything to software slow as hell but may make the file smaller so this is my advice till the developers can respond.

@glenns, it worked! My problem was that I am using a newer computer and the writable media size was at the default. I changed it to 23700 instead of the 23866 default. I use Verbatim BD-R (6x).
Now my only problem is that I bought a 3D DVD Player through Amazon when the 3D TV was delivered. Not thinking at all about "Cinavia", I bought a Sony player with it already enabled. Found this out when I went to play the backup of Hotel Transylvania. Too late to return it, so I have to do some research and buy another one. Once again, thanks for your help. Your instructions should be made into a "Sticky"!!!!!

LDLDL-I am glad it worked and your welcome for the help. Now I still want to know how big was the fab made file just put the mouse over it and it shows up also your verbatim disks look at your drive when you load a blank into the drive windows tells you the disk size and how much it is.Just click on start and then computer then look at the blu ray burner with a blank in it what size is it?
The default size in fab is 23098 so you must of changed it to 23866 in the past. Now you say you changed it to 23700 and it worked so i can learn why this worked i am asking these questions.
Also think about media players instead of a new 3d player as it will break some day and all the new players built after sept 2012 i believe was the date will be infected where as media players are not effected by this. Some do 3d also $100-$140 or so for the media player with my Miccia you can use a 3t drive and put many many movies on it cost about about $170 for the 3t drive. It's a lot cheaper than buying blank disks you don't worry about your friends not given your disks back because you don't burn disks anymore, you don't have to worry about Sony's cinavia anymore and the whole thing is portable so you can bring it somewhere else, all your movies are in one place, you can back up the whole 3t drive and they have built in internet browsers and streaming so think about it.Make sure you get a 3d one if that's important to you mine is and i love it.And a great tax return gift for yourself.
Fab should have this info. posted as they have it for everything else but 3d and 3d is growing and growing.Last edited by glenns; 02-11-2013, 06:48 AM.

glens... How are you?
Okay, I can't tell you the size of the movie file as it was deleted after the burn. I had burned the iso file to the disc. the Verbatim size is 22.5 gb. Also, the default for BD-RE is 23098 and the default for BD-R (which is what I use) is 23866. As I said before, I have it set at 23700. I only have the one
3D disc, but will buy some more soon.
As for the 3D media player, I was looking at the KDlinks, but still haven't decided. With Cinavia, the media player is the best route, IMO. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
