I wasn't going to chime in but I guess it couldn't hurt. Bear in Mind this was a long time ago for me and I didn't have any SATA device at the time. That being said I used to get the problem with my Benq DW1670 drive switching to PIO mode and getting cyclical redundancy errors when burning. The only way I could fix it was to go into the Device Manager and uninstall all the IDE controller driver entries, then reboot the computer and let Windows reinstall the IDE Controller drivers. I had it happen several times and this is the only thing that would put my drive back into DMA mode. This was in XP though and haven't had the problem in years since changing to Vista. This probably isn't the same thing, but it might be something to try for S&G's.
