Copy Speed of Blu ray discs

I have copied a few discs with no problem. However, I was attempting to copy First Knight - it took 6 minutes to analyse the disc. The copying started at 6.48MB/s dropping to 2.61MB/s after 1 minute after another 4 minutes this dropped to 1.44MB/s. This eventually dropped to 0.77MB/s after 7 hours 17 mins showing another 1 hour 37 minutes to go. I cancelled the process. This has happened of a few other discs.
    Any ideas ?

Generally this happen when you have bad disc. Disc may play fine but it is not fine. Change the disc.
If you fail to plan...you plan to fail wouldn't you not agree..Think about it

With out seeing your logs it is hard to say what the problem may be.... first make sure you are using the most current version of Fab http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=9587

You may try to reset DMA to do this Open Fab Click the Green top right > General > make sure Check for DMA Automatically is Checked and also Click the Reset DMA to the right click OK and restart Fab.

If you still have problems post your logs the default location is:
      For Win7 C:\Users\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log
      or Vista C:\Users\User Name\Documents\DVDFab\Log
      or for XP C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\DVDFab\Log
Please just attach your most resent, Internal and Burn log(s) and post right here.

Sounds like you're compressing to BD25 during the copy process.

I'm far from knowledgable when it comes to languages outside my native tongue, but I'm pretty sure anulation loosely translated (from ? Flemish, ? Dutch, ? French)
              means cancellation.

              A few thoughts....
Please read through the list found in my thread:
              Tips on Troubleshooting Analyzing/Ripping dvds

Clean the disc as suggested in #3, regardless of its appearance.

As suggested by W&B, do not compress from the original disc. Do this only from the files already ripped to the hdd.

Also recommend that you change the A/V Codec settings in Common Settings to all software as shown:

Thanks for the tip...very useful with problematic rips
I think W&B's guess is right on...I think Grandad is compressing from the disc, but we'll have to wait to hear from him.

BTW, nothing wrong with your English or communication skills.
After googling a bit, I figured Dutch, maybe Flemish.
                  Again, thanks for posting back

DMA is a non-issue. DMA setting is ok @ UDMA 5

Your burn speed is way too fast and you're using marginal quality blank media.
Also, it appears your burner and firmware are not happy with this media.

Please reduce your burn speed to 2X.
Ideally, switch to Verbatim media, but regardless of media choice,
                      burn at 2X.
(I'm assuming you still have some Ritek media left and so you might as well try again, but at 2X only).
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Agreed DMA is not an issue with Blu-Ray
Along with Maineman's advice I would also suggest installing ImgBurn it is free and you will find it here along with a tutorial on how to set it up http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=33 remember to set up AWS

Also when compressing Blu-Ray, first rip full disc or main movie to hard drive first as BD50, then take the ripped file as your source on your hard drive and compress the movie from you hard drive source, it will be much faster.

Right, as suggested I just copy the bluray to the hard drive - took about 40mins. Great. Downloaded ImgBurn and set it up.
I presume I just load in the film on the hard drive and rip as usual on DVDFAb ?
Doesn't seem to make a lot of difference it is still taking a very long time. There has been no increase in speed. What am I doing wrong ???
