Reading Errors

I've been trying to make back-up copies of 2 movies to no avail. I thought maybe downloading the recent update would work, but that hasn't helped either. I keep receiving an Error While Reading message when it reaches about 21%. It asks if I want to retry, abort, ignore or ignore all. I've tried every option. No good.

I don't know if any of the following is helpful, but....

I did as you instructed, but it's now not reading the DVD atall when I load it.

Please uninstall and reinstall 8056 from this link
Also please install ImgBurn, it is free, you will find it here along with a tutorial on how to set it up with Fab remember to set up the AWS in ImgBurn. When setting up you speed to burn, set to 1/2 the rated speed of your disc.
If you keep getting read errors give this a read through
Post back with results
Your drive also has a firmware update, you will find it here
Note: If you do not know how to flash your drive do not do it, it will render your drive useless.

With all due respect to CBR929 and his advice, I think he's getting a bit ahead of himself here with his last post. (By the time you read this, it'll probably be too late to stop you from a re-install - and PLEASE don't re-do your drives firmware unless you really know what you're doing).

From what you've posted, you have two errors.

1.) Event Log - a write error during a burn...
2.) Process Log - a read error during a copy...

Starting with the second - if you can find it, download Nero DiscSpeed from the web (see if you can find the freebie D/L), and if not, D/L VSO Inspector, and put your store-bought Disney discs through a scan.

Any errors generated will point strongly to a pressing problem (= defective disc), and if so, return to where you got them for a replacement.

The first problem (the burn error) will require you to please submit an actual burn log from that burn attempt (similar to what you posted, except longer and with more info - located in the same place, except further down the file).

I suspect it's the blank media you're using, but the burn log will tell us for sure.

I didn't wait the entire *14 hours* it said it would take to scan the whole thing. After 15 minutes I figured, why bother. So, essentially, I guess this disk is crap? I don't understand why it will play fine in the BluRay/DVD player and with the DVD player/Burner on my PC. We've watched it several times and it seemed fine.

What you've posted is the start of a log, generated each time you start up Fab, but an actual burn log is MUCH longer than what you've posted. When you access the burn logs, just scroll down 'til you find a log that says either 'burn successful' or 'burn failed', (it's the 'burn failed' that I want to see) and copy and paste that into your next post (or post it as an attachment).

I can't get to the burning process because I can't save or copy the disk. It doesn't get more than 21% before I get the read error. I have not had trouble with any of the other dozens I've copied. Just these 2 Disney movies.


I deleted all of the logs (saved the old stuff in another folder) so everything was blank when I tried this last time.

I've attached the two logs so you could take a peek. The other two were blank...
This time I attempted to copy the full disk.

I've just about given up.... I tried to copy the disc to my HDD, but received another error message. I think the DVD is protected. DVDFab can't even read the file to copy, so I can't burn it. If I pop it in to just watch the movie, it's fine. But as soon as I put it into the drive and try to do anything with it using DVDFab, it fails. I'm stumped.
ImgBurn gives me a message that the disc is Copy Protected. "Copy Protection Sysyem Type: CSS/CPPM. Sorry, ImgBurn cannot read copy protected discs." I've attached the log, if that helps...?

Have you checked them for scratches, fingerprints, etc???

Ripping is a lot more demanding of the quality of the disk rather than just playing.

Yes - tiny, hardly detectable scratches. I've seen worse, and those read/burned fine. I think I need to find something to "crack" the protection on this DVD. Is there such a thing?

You've mentioned that you have been able to offload about 21% of the data before you get an error message... that is enough to tell us where the error may lie, if we could get to see the 'burn log'.

In this case, the 'Burn Log' will show us the progress of the rip up to the point where it fails, even though it isn't even close to a burn on blank media.

You also mentioned that you saved the old logs in another folder... If you could access that folder, and copy and paste an old, FAILED log, there will be enough info on it to help us point you in the right direction.

Those 'burn logs' track everything, right up to the end of the burn process (including the rip process).

If you can't access an old log, please attempt another rip, and send us the burn log from that attempt, and we'll see what there is to see.

I'll attach what I have in the old logs... I had to split the burn log into 3 separate documents due to the size limitations. I hope these help...

I'm attaching the VSO Report I just ran. It's only about 4%, but it's pretty much all the same.
