    Writing failure, please help

I have so far created about 10 coasters and not one DVD !

I am using Verbatim DVD-R media and each time, after only a few seconds of writing, I get this error which I've pasted below.

I created a DVD image using Pinnacle Studio which I saved to my hard drive.

I'm then trying to use DVDFab/IMGBurn to create the actual disc. I've tried using just imgburn on it's own too but get the same result.

I am using a brand new (less than 3 months old) Acer 5810T laptop with a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ862AS burner which has not been used very much at all, if at all.

The part of the error log that I am sure is causing the problem is "W 04:10:09 Failed to Write Sectors 77152 - 77183 - Reason: Power On, Reset, or Bus Device Reset Occurred"
However as a relatively novice computer user, I don't really know what it means or what to do about it.... Any help would be much appreciated

    Thanks, Midlandmaverick.

I know this will not help but slimline laptop drives are always problematical. If you are going to do much burning, invest in a good quality external USB drive.

From the error logs, the problem certainly appears to be the drive.

Taking a guess here -- maybe update the drivers for your video card by going to the manufacture's website?

Nvidia came out with some new ones for my card ...

The bold I quoted is your problem as the files need to be DVD compliant in order to work. Also MATSHITA drives are the worst to have and if you are going to continue using your laptop I suggest getting an external DVD drive to use for the burning part

Looks like an good external drive might be a good starting point

I'll check the the DVDfab FAQ for best suggestions for which to buy............

Are these drives as fitted to my laptop known for read issues too?

I've just tried copying a disc (non copy protected, home video DVD) and I couldn't get it to read, I even tried a few different discs......

Could it be that my drive is broken? I'll have to wait before I get back home to the UK where I bought it from if this might be the case...

            Thank you

The drive could be broken but in a lot of cases, they are just poor quality.

That figures..... Just realised I do have an International Travellers warranty , so a trip to Homebush Bay might be worthwhile.

                Thanks again!

                      Agreed.
Matshita = MatSHITa....sorry no offense intended.
They come in a lot of laptops

                      One more chance here.
Your burner is in PIO mode (this will never work).
It needs to be in DMA mode.

                      "2009-11-06 03:47:39 Info PIO Mode"

There's a Reset DMA button in Fab > Common Settings
If this fails, click on the Stubborn DMA link in my sig.

Agree with others. You'll be much better off with an external drive or an internal in an external case.

                        No offence taken

I guess I'll have to take the plunge and get an external drive - a pain as the beauty of a latop is portability which is greatly reduced as the box count goes up.....

I've just tried backing-up Michael Jackson Live In Bucharest but keep getting read errors, so like you said, MatSHITa................

I've just spent the best part of 12 hours on this issue... and have found the solution! It's not the Matshita drive in this case, but Acer not updating their drivers.

I have the same dvd drive in the Acer Aspire 5810T laptop, mine arrived today. My first job was the burn the backup dvds with the eRecovery software, but it kept aborting and returning the error 0x205 or 0x207. I thought it was the software but later discovered that all burns were doomed (I made 12 coasters and 3 successful test dvds - but no successes through eRecovery).

Then I googled the error I was getting from Nero when it bombed out - "Reason: Power On, Reset, or Bus Device Reset Occurred ". This returned a forum post where someone had reported the same issue before realising they hadn't installed their motherboard drivers. So I started looking at those - in this laptop, the disc controller is the Intel ICH9M-E/M AHCI controller. The drivers listed on the Acer website for Vista (and the ones installed from the factory on this laptop) are quite old - so I installed the newer one (version 8.9.0.1023) and presto - I burned a successfull test disc followed by three dvds using eRecovery.

                          Here's that link:

or for all of them for the laptop:

(ignore the fact that it's listed as being for Windows 7 - if you read the readme file (by Intel) you'll see they list Vista under the compatible OSes).

                          Happy burning!
