Actually I got to thinking about something, The available write speed per your burner and the whole laptop bad theory. The verbs you're using is rated at 16X and most internal burners in desktop pc's report those speeds as being available (but not recommended). So your ImgBurn reports your lappy can burn at 8X which is max speed and I've always suggested to burn at half the rated media speed but I always have the habit of checking what ImgBurn says is available per the burner being used.

Confused yet? LOL I'm terrible at explaining things but short answer always check what ImgBurn reports is available and burn at the reported speed available. (just wanted to clear that up for personal reasons...just another reason ImgBurn is a far superior burn engine.

Edit: Then maybe it just hates verbs...

      Playback Problem

Well I'll tell you one thing for sure, I have just used my last Verbatim on that computer unless someone can give me a positive answer to my problem. I have already made about EIGHT coasters (good thing I got those Verbs cheap-LOL) because before I put up this posting I tried everything that I knew, including reducing the write speed, and I watched Troy's video very closely a few times (in HD) hoping that I was doing something wrong. But you know what blows my mind? I can use those Verbs on my desktop PC, which is a lot older (the laptop is brand new) and I have no problem whatsoever. Maybe my laptop just doesn't like Verbs. Oh well, at least I have another computer so they won't go to waste. Thanks again to everyone.

Yeah, I don't think this is going to be resolved unless we just blindly stumble into something that happens to work.

However, you might try bitsetting with Img as I outlined in post #21.
(You may not have seen that post...it got a bit buried)
It's worth a shot, but I know the Riteks are not bitset and play ok...so it is a long shot.

Unusual that the Ritek discs work and the Verbs do not, but as I said, nothing surprises me with this technology.
I know a mod on another forum who couldn't get Taiyo Yuden blanks to burn in one of his burners when other blanks would...
        and these were YUDEN000 T02 no less...the best +R media on the planet...JMO !!!

When your slimline craps out, pick up an external burner or use an internal burner in an external enclosure.
You'll be better off all around
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I did see post 21 but I have a couple of questions regarding it. First of all on my laptop the device listed in the Change Book Type window does not match any of the tabs. The tabs are the same as those in your illustration but the device is: [1:0:0] hp CDDVDW TS-L633M 0301 (E (SATA) Any idea which of the tabs would match up with this device?

Secondly, that setting is for IMG Burn, but I earlier tried to burn one of the Verbs with the built in burner in the PC (Power2Go) and ended up with the same results. Confusing eh?

I don't know how that smiley face got in that last posting but it should have been a colon (E: (SATA) Actually, there is another ")" on the right of the E there but I omitted it here because I just figured out how the smiley face got there (LOL)

Looks like your burner is a Samsung. Samsung's firmware support for bitsetting is poor to say the least. Your problem is compounded as you would need oem firmware from hp and you already know my feelings about that...I don't think there is any at all for this drive.

So, you can try the Samsung tab in Img...nothing bad will come of it, but frankly, it really is a long shot

The only other option is to look around for modified firmware and to try and flash the drive.
I don't know if one exists.
Even so, I would not recommend this without more info such as does this drive have a MTK chipset?

Flashing your burner with anything but hp firmware will void your warranty and likely produce a very expensive doorstop
Moreover, the drive is working with the Ritek media and you can burn the Verbs with your desktop.

If I were you, I'd try the bitsetting with Img and call it quits.
Defintely do not opt to make a small problem worse...in other words...
