I'm the same. I haven't made the jump to BR yet but perhaps for different reasons than most DVD collectors.

The cinavia issue is a smaller reason as I'd like to wait until this issue is resolved as I'm guessing that it will happen eventually.

It's resolved as far as I'm concerned. I have a media player and Cinavia never crosses my mind!

There is nothing wrong sticking to DVD only unless you want a better picture and watch movies in 3D.Then you will need Blu-Ray.Here in Australia we have an electronic company call KOGAN..I just purchased a brand new Blu-Ray 3D player from them. This company has given SONY the finger and will not have Cinavia protection build in.This player also plays from every region in the world DVD's and also plays every region in Blu-rays.A,B,C. Cost of player was $109.00 AUD.What more could one want. Now I have 2 Sony and one Kogan player all Cinavia free.

Good point about the media players. I've read about that here, good info. I'm not presently into the media-playing scene but that may be the way for me to go if the issue isn't resolved by the time I'm ready (if ever ) to enter the BR market.

I agree, it's just a personal choice with the BR / 3D decisions. I'm satisfied with my upconvert std DVD player on the 1080p Plasma TV but one reason that works for me is the most important consideration for me in this hobby.. "content".

I'm a collector of older TV/DVD shows and as such, many of those won't be re-released in BR format and that removes most incentives for me to enter the BR scene.

Thanks for the info on that Kogan player. Wow That's something I might check into soon. That's about $95 U.S. as of today's exchange rates.

What's the model # of your Kogan player? I tried a simulated purchase in the Kogan site cart but it doesn't appear to allow shipment to the U.S.

Hi Scoop,Kogan model no is KABRP3DWFIA. http://www.kogan.com/au/.Click on "help" and ask the question if they send to the US.If no make 'em an offer like you will pay all expenses through Pay Pal to them. Give it try This player connects to the net also. It's no different to all the other players around, just better I can assure you. Remember we have 240 volt you have 110 but any simple power converter can fix that. The player also has Pal and your NTSC colour,so no problem there.Good luck my friend Forgot to tell you it's also a 7 channel Blu-ray player...Who needs Sony and all rest of that mob.

Why is this thread even in the DVD Copy forum rather than the Blu-Ray Copy forum since Cinavia Protection has nothing to do with DVDs? Does Cinavia come into play when ripping a DVD to DVD and playing it on a Blu-Ray player?

                    Hi

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into this further. The link didn't work for me (no graphics display on my PC at link) but no problem , you provided the model # so I downloaded the PDF User Manual for reading.

I checked Kogan's site FAQ section and didn't find information about overseas shipping policies so I sent the question to their "help" center contact via e-mail.

                    Thanks again

                          Cinavia ruins DVD Playback now

I got rid of my Sony players because they didn't playback my legal backup copies, now I cannot see KickAss2 because of Cinavia on my Toshiba Blu-Ray player. When is DVDFab going to break this virus for DVDs? It's been growing the past 3 years.

DVD to DVD and played on blu-ray, cinavia problem

Still a problem? 'Tis for me. I was able to play it on an older dvd player with no Cinavia detection. But, my question is, is there some way to place the appropriate AACS key in/on the copied disc so this won't be an issue for anyone?

No, Cinavia is an inaudible signal within the audio stream. If the firmware in the player has the function and detects the audio signal it will mute. If your player will play an mkv via the USB port you can get around it that way, but you can't burn the mkv (or any other format) to a disc period. Media players do not detect the signal, I have an AIOS with an external DVD drive connected for when Cinavia rears it's ugly head.

This is just a thought. There was a time all players had region incoding programmed in.Then the codes where broken and we all could watch movies from any region on the planet. Now all we need now is someone to find a way to "reset" the cinavia detection to none. Meaning instead finding a way fiddling around with the disc..The complicated part, we need to fiddle around with the player..The week part in the system. Use 2 Sony players for example. One has no cinavia detection..the other one has.So what did they put in or programmed to the other player to make the switch. If it was a part put in...it could be taken out.If it is a programm (most likely)then there must be a way to re-programm it.Surely some smart computer programmers or some wizzards should find this out...It has to be possible. We been on the moon a few times.......
