You can maximize the compatibility of your backups to set top players by using +R blanks and setting the Booktype to DVD-ROM. Makes it look like a commercially released DVD to the player. The Booktype bit can't be changed on a -R blank and a few players still have a problem playing them. See attached:How to post the internal log
Things should be made as simple as possible, but no simpler.

If you changed the setting in Fab like 90312 says for plus r disks the only thing left to do is try a different brand of blank disks or see if your player if it's one that connects to the internet maybe it needs needs a firmware update.
What brand of player was your friends?
You can always go back to a older version of Fab if it worked before you can find older Fab programs here.
One last thing you can try I don't think it will work because the disk you made plays on the hard drive with a software player you can try turning Pathplayer off in Fab settings and go through the process again using the store brought disk.Be sure to turn it back to always enable when your done.Last edited by glenns; 02-04-2014, 10:18 PM.
