I need help, dvd to dvd, "single layer disc, insert double layer media"

Hello fellows. First, I would like say great software. I used it several times throughout the trial period and everything was excellent, on the day that the trial ended I burned 1 disc that day. I attempted to burn a second disc that day and this is where my problem started. It copied the movie to the hard drive, when I was prompted to insert blank disc, I inserted the disc as I had done before, then within a few seconds it would say "Media inserted in drive E: is single layer. Please insert double layer media to start write process." From this point I assumed that this message was occuring to prevent people from using the software past the expiration date of the trial. I already planned on purchasing the software so, I to went to dvdfab.com to check out prices and saw that the new beta 7 was available, so I unistalled the dvdfab 6.2.1.8 to switch it up to the new beta 7. A few days after that I purchased the lifetime subscription for the DVD to DVD option. I figured that after I purchased the subscription to use the software permanetly, it would resolve the single layer disc message and get back to backing up my dvd's. Unfortunately it still says the same thing. I also recently installed the dvdfab 7.0.2.7 to see if that would work this issue out but, no luck yet. I know the dvd+r's I am trying to use work because they were from the same spindle of discs I was using during the trial period. The discs are Sony dvd+r and say 120 min./ 4.7 gb ACCUcore RW dvd+r. I also tried Memorex dvd-rw 2x 4.7gb 120 min also with no luck. I have not saw any errors or error codes come up just the above message. I have read the "help us help you" policy. I am not a master with computers but, I will try to include as much as of the info requested in the HUHY policy. Here is my info, and thanks in advance for any help that can get me going again! I added my burn vso log all the way back to the time it started giving me the single layer message.

Other info, several different discs were attempted. My is an Acer Aspire T180 AMD Athlon 64 x 2 dual core processor 4200+ 2.2 Ghz, 2gb RAM, 32 bit op sys, Dvd drive is Hitachi HDT725025VLA SCSI region 1, NVIDIA GeForce 6100 nforce 405 and I run it on Vista basic, I also have an external WD 320gb hdd, have not made any changes recently on my OS, I have other burning software on my pc, NTI, which came with the pc @ time of purchase. There is also MAGIX Goya burnR, which I've never used but came with some other software I purchased. The NTI software I use for burnig audio and data music cds, I have never used NTI for burning any video discs. I also tried updating my dvd drive software but, it was already up to date. Also note I don't use imgburn. So hopefully some one can help, I think I included everything noted in the help us help you policy. If not let me know what else I can include to help aid in a solution for me. Thanks again!! I will have to use2 posts to include burn vso log and internal.

I've picked off the necessary info from the posts you made.

Did you get the key that was sent to the email address you indicated when you made your purchase?

        Pleae advise.

Yeah, I got the key. I copied and pasted it into the "enter registration key" box. It says my name next to the dvd to dvd option when you first open the program. I followed the instructions that came with the email, when i first entered it restarted just like it said it would in the email. I just looked at it again and the key says DVDFab 6.x. Do you think if I unistalled the dvdfab7 and reinstalled dvdfab6, then maybe it would work itself out? With the possiblity that the key needs the dvdfab6, then upgrading to the new beta 7 later? I'm not sure b/c it does say my name next to the dvd to dvd option and says "never expire" after that. I remembered one other thing too, I set the program up on my external hd (Jbut, it still runs through my C: hd. I don't know if that could make any difference, but thought I should include that info.

Don't know how you un-installed v6.X.X.X, but it shouldn't really make a difference... just use the key you got for ver. 6 with the new install you did for v7, and all should be good again.

Don't know if I mentioned this or not, but since you're using the Home Edition of Vista, please install the program and the key 'as administrator' and run Fab 'as administrator' for all to work well.

I unistalled it from the control panel on my pc. Still no luck. I opened it as administrator, and when it opened it showed the trial for dvd to dvd being unused yet, from there i copy pasted the registration key. It restarted and said my name again in the box next dvd to dvd but, still detects both types of the discs that I previously mentioned as Single layer media detected. I tried burning as dvd5 instead of dvd9 but got the error400 trancoder error.

As per my previous post, BOTH the program and the key MUST be installed 'as administrator', then the program MUST be run 'as administrator'.

You've mentioned that you are copying and pasting the info (I assume from the email)... do you still have the key that was sent as an attachment?

With the key, all you have to do is double-click it to install it (again, 'as administrator').

                Please advise.

                  Scum???

                  The disc's are Sony dvd+r and say 120 min./ 4.7 gb ACCUcore RW dvd+r. I also tried Memorex dvd-rw 2x 4.7gb 120 min also with no luck.

The disc's you are using are single layer.

Have you tried going into settings green check / DVD Blu Ray / Write / and change your writable size a little higher?

Reading your post again and just realized something.

I set the program up on my external hd (Jbut, it still runs through my C: hd. I don't know if that could make any difference, but thought I should include that info.
I'm pretty sure you have to install Fab on your C:drive if it is not give it a try and post back results.

We have sucess!!!!! I unistalled dvdfab7, re-installed dvdfab6. This time I did not put the program file on J: (external hdd) like before but, put it on C: (internal hd). From there it showed my name as being registered on the first menu that comes up when you open the program. I used the attachment key from the email, opened it with dvdfab6 program file. Put the disc in overwrote the existing file, and it burned just fine! I thought in the email it was optional to either paste the code into the box on dvdfab or use the attachment key. The solution was between or combined with putting the whole program file on 1 hard drive and/or entering the registration code, that you copy and paste, and then using the key that are both in the registration email. The Sony dvd+r's are the discs that I used when the process was completed. It looks like the single layer dvd's worked out for me in the end. Thanks to both Darth Copier (cool name too) and CBR929. Between the 2 of you I finally got it worked out.

I got the same message and I notice on new installs of software the default setting for burning is dvd9 instead of dvd5 go into setup and change defaults to dvd5.

I am having the same problem.
I try using DVD+R DL blanks. (double layer) dvdfab seems to accept these then quits on error "task e error=00122"

I would really appreciate a fix for this problem.

Hello again everyone. We have sucess!! I was so happy after the sucess yesterday, I typed a a post to let you guys know how it went. I ended up closing the window w/o posting the message and didn't even notice until today. The solution that worked for me was either or, or a combination of 3 things. I unistalled the beta 7, reinstalled the dvdfab 6.1.2.8, this time making sure to keep the program file on my C: drive, then I opened the attachment key from the registration email using the dvdfab program. When I first reinstalled dvdfab it did show my name as being registered, but showed a non used trial. After I used the attachment key, it worked just fine, and showed next to my name "never expire". I used the Sony dvd+r's and they worked again, even being single layer discs. I must have misunderstood the registration email, I thought it was an either or type of thing with the registration, copy and paste the registration key or used the attachment key. I thought they were the same thing. Thanks for quick replies and all the assistance from Darth Copier and CBR929!!!! Hopefully these posts will assist others in the future as well. And Darth Copier- cool user name. Thanks again, I am sure I chat you guys again in the future.
