hi
This is how I backup a movie. The first thing I do is turn my external Drive on. Then open up dvdfab, then I click the little triangle next to the target box, you should see your external Drive click it so it stays in the target drive box. The source box says please insert a dvd. Insert the DVD into your external Drive and close the draw. You should get a box up about the region code click 2 . Then I click on the left side of DVD copy I click main movie. Then you get on the right side of the screen, all of the subtitles and above the audio I normally remove all of the subtitles on and clicking the box next to each subtitle. As for the audio I normally just leave the top one in place, then at the bottom near the quality button I click 5 which is single layer discs. 9 is dual layer discs. Then I click next and the bottom, a screen will come up and at the bottom of that I think it says next or start and I click that. And that is all I can tell you, it works for me . The version of dvdfab are used is 8005 hope this helps. PS you should never use your internal drive.

Hope this helps.
Plodding on, as uninstalled the other copy prog, did manage to copy a music dvd today, very simple, so, still confused as why it does not do "Shutter Island" however, the copy was done on an Infinity" disk, as was only small and did not need to be DL!
So, perhaps its just THIS batch of Verbatim dl disks, as they have always worked in the past! Not many left now, so will try and get the ones advised next time!

ok, done that, as below. also managed t set up to do everything from one drive. Will try it once more, then when the dizzyness wears of, (Diazepan and naprosyn) For my Back Pain, which is why I am off work and able to do this in the first place, I will pop to asda and look for the disks!
hopefully the below log will give an idea what is wrong!
May also buy a new Burner, any suggestions of a good one available in the UK?
Thanks again

Please open ImgBurn and on the Tools menu, select "Filter driver load order", and click the copy to clipboard button. Please paste the results into a post. No need to mention other software by name, just say "other software". DVDFab has no problem with Shutter Island, this looks like some type of drive/IO problem. I agree with what others have said about the quality of the blank media, but if it has worked before it should work now. You should be able to select your external drive using the dropdown selector in the Source or Target areas near the top of the DVDFab window.

At least now I know it is possible to copy this disk, and while I am off work determined to find the way to do it! If I need a new better burner, I will buy one, change disks, I will find them, but simply can not justify a new machine just to do it!

todays effort!
OK, tried using the IMG burn Engine, and thought I had set it up using the Youtube tutorial, did look like it was overwriting the copy protection, and skipping the blank sectors etc, so was hopeful. Anyway, actually went all the way through and I thought it was looking good, but finished disk still will not load on my laptop, or on my home DVD player, although that at least sees it as a DVD this time, lol, (and laptop sees the writen disk as "Shutter Island")
Here is todays logs, sorry if there is a lot, and some not needed but no idea what to do really!
In three seperate bits as too long for a post otherwise.

I have since found that IMG appears to let you associate a drive with each type of media, and max write speed so have done that now, does anyone think it is worth another try or is there something else more major wrong?
Thanks for your continuing help!
Stephen

OK, well I can hardly change my laptop simply to copy a few films for backup, it is two years old, and is a company supplied one, besides, it has worked with clone for the past two years, only this dam shutter Island that started all the grief, lol. as to the media, the local shop only sells two types, one is the standard lightscribe disk at 700mb, by infinity, the other I use for larger films requiring DVD( and these are Verbatim, also used before! What make do you suggest?
Another thing I need to add is the burn speeds available to you which are Supported Write Speeds: 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x and your DVD drive seems to be burning at 8x speed which is max and not good as well. Lower the burn speed to 4x speed and if that not work get better blank media like Verbatim AZO made in Taiwan.
I thought I had set the speed to match the disks, but apparently not, I followed the YOUTUBE video as best i could, (with my poor eyesight!)
To fix the burn speed using ImgBurn use the link below and watch the youtube video on how to set up ImgBurn to work with DVDFab.
If none of this works for you then give a desktop computer a try if you have or maybe get a external DVD Drive as that MATSHITA drive you have is the main problem for you
As I said, all has worked in the past!

OK, installed IMG burn, now looking at integrating it with DVD Fab, used the 2discovery" section of it on the disk I tried to burn yesterday, and this is the log, means nothing to me, but willing to listen to what anyone has to say about it.

Thanks
OK Guys, thanks for your comments, I suppose really my Bitch is with CLONE DVD, as to liking it to driving a shiny new car, well, I have been driving CLONEDVD for ten years, its started first time, and always worked. Then along comes a new model, I pay my money and this shiny new car does NOT do what the old on did, i.e. actually work, lol.
I am frustrated, off work since last Friday, in agony having pulled my back, and decided to get my DVD collection backed up, (as have been doing for last 10 years) been a bit busy lately, and several new ones have come into the house without being backed up. My drive works fine for burning my band CD`s, ran off several copies of them yesterday, and etched them with Lightscribe, so dont thing it is a connection problem. Also having found clone DVD did not work since upgrading it, decided to make sure my laptop was virus free, as that was their suggestion! So, upgraded my virus protection to the latest "AVG Security Suit" scanned everything including for rootkits, found a few tracking cookies but nothing major, also installed "stop Zilla" as a belt and braces, ran that and it apparently found a few problems that AVG did not.
Removed all un used programs, de fragged the laptop, and did everything I could think of to improve performance etc. Must say machine did appear a bit faster, but CLONEDVD did still not appear to work! so, looked around a few forums and found that "Shutter Island" apparently had a new type of copy protection, and that DVDfab latest version, was aware of this, and worked,
so, un installed Clone that I had just paid for, and installed it!
Interface looked much the same, and easy to use, so popped a disk in and left it to it! When I came back into the room, it had ejected the "copy" so, I assumed it had finished! Apparently not.
Bottom line is that BOTH CloneDVD and DVDfab clearly state that they remove ALL copy protection, are simple to use and "one process" which, is clearly not currently the case.
I was not at my best yesterday, had spent 15hrs on various problems, in pain and high on pain killers, so sorry.
I will try replacing the burning engine as suggested, and look at the whole situation again, all I want is to be able to copy "Shutter Island" Avatar and Clash of the Titans, my three latest films, put them in the loft and get on with my life, is that too much to ask, lol.
Anyway, thanks for your help so far.
