This is true I just hate to give up win2k it uses next to nothing in the way of resources, the bigest downside of using (besides getting outdated) is the slow start-up time. When you only reboot when you need to that becomes less of an issue. This is an older machine I got for free that up until now had been ripping and burning a DVD (2 DVD drives one with the movie one with a blank DVD) in about 30 min. Insert DVD's click two buttons and walk away for half an hour, come back and hello Mr. back up / loaner DVD.
Not bad for a cheap machine that I only dropped a bit of ram and two burners into. It takes longer to double burn a lightscribe label than to back up a new DVD.

I'll give it a wirl, we'll see if it overcomes v7's buring error I started getting... of course I haven't tried to burn using 7 in a couple of days I think I'll try it again with (I think) all traces of v8 off the system and see if it still wants to kick out an error=111 on me. If it does I'll try the IMGburn software and see what happens then.
Tried it and agin 1 got Task 2 failed error =111

Now is as good a time as any to try ImgBurn... I'll post the results.

Also do as I suggested earlier Open ImgBurn go to Tools > Filter driver load order, post what is listed
as the error you are getting is:
        111 HWS_DEVICEBUSY 11 // Device is busy

Even if it's a little thing, do something for those who have need of help, something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it.

I'd like to get 7 back to working order first. I think this will be it for tonight 3am comes too early... be back tomorrow if I can with the info you asked for.

I did get v7 to burn with ImgBurn so thats a step in the right direction.

I cleaned the Registry manually wiping just version8 info out, last uninstall took the DVDFab 8 folder out itself. I reinstalled from the file downloaded from Fengtao's link, restarted and I'm right back where I started. v8 will open the opening dvd source window for just a second, the bar fills a little and then the window is gone and it asks me (in the source box) to insert a dvd..select folder.

                Any other ideas?

                  Good evening Yoder
I see you got something started and we are back to square one
Have you checked to see if your "Key" registered properly???
Open Fab ? about what does it say under the options you purchased?

Heres something I found maybe it will help:

I recently had an issue after upgrading from version 7 to version 8 where DVDFab would not start at all. After some messing around with trying to install with antivirus off and multiple uninstalls and reinstalls of previous versions, I decided to check within the registry. Now, for those not comfortable messing with registry settings, I would advise you ask a computer tech, who is, to do the following changes. To enter the registry go to the start menu and select run, from there type regedit. This will open up the registry. You are going to want to be in HKEY_CURRENT_USER then go into Software. Once in Software, find DVDFab and check the Path in the window on the right. It should show something like this C:\Program Files\DVDFab #\DVDFab.exe where DVDFab # is whatever current version you have installed. Mine was showing DVDFab 7 so when I would click on the desktop icon, quick launch or even the .exe within the DVDFab folder, it was looking for version 7 and would not launch 8. Hope this is a help to anyone that is having issues with DVDFab opening.

Also have you tried your other burner? Also please post your current logs.

Not quite, after the initial instal of 8 I could no longer burn with 7, as you will see in the log later, I can now rip&burn with 7 again. The switch to ImgBurn solved that issue. Also I now know a lot of things that don't work. The simple fact that 7 is working as expected tells me now it isn't hardware or driver related but related directly to 8. Thats something. I also read in a thread by Gator(something or another) a response stating that there v8 was running just fine on win2k, indicates that it probably isn't an issue with the OS.

Yes I have tried the other burner swaping the source and destination selections, same result.

Ok this last time I deleted DVDFab 8.
Cleaned the registry manulally : I searched DVDFab this time rather than DVDFab 8. In some spots there were DVD 8 keys along with the other 3 versions I have installed 5, 6, & 7. There I deleted the whole key. In other spots I would have a DVDFab 5 Key , a DVDFab 6 Key but for 7 and 8 I would just have the seperate components (i.e. DVDFabDVD2DVD, DVDFabBluRay2DVD, ect,). In these cases you could find a value within the key that pointed to C:\Program Files\DVDFab 8\DVDFab.exe . I wonder if these were still in there as 8 since I hadn't restarted windows after the uninstall yet. Either way when I came across those types of keys I modified the value of the program path by changing the 8 back to 7.

after going through the registry once doing this I started over at the begining and rechecked. Granted the second pass was quick I didn't see any traces of 8.
Interestingly I did come across one reference to "prefetch" within one of the DVDFab keys.
. I left it alone for now. The reason I find this of interest is that in several posts from different threads I saw this:
Originally posted by CBR929 View Post

The thing is in Win2kPro there is no windows file under C: therefore no prefectch folder to clean of .pf files. Searches for prefetch on that system have turned up nothing.

ok back to the last reinstall: after cleaning the registry...
I restarted the computer. I let everything get up and going then I restarted agian this time into safe mode.
Once in safe mode I installed DVDFab 8 at the end of the seemingly sucsessful install it asked me to restart to finish the instalation. I did this letting it boot normaly into windows.
I then opened up 8 with a DVD and a blank in each tray. ... Same darn thing .
So wanting to back up a copy I ran v7 and all went well. The stinking song on the Smallville DVD Menu has been playing in the other room as I've typed this ...(man it's annoying now).

You asked my to post my log and what follows are the last 2 attempts with 8 after I did all that was previously mentioned and the following succes of 7 and the typing of this post which brings me right up to Mow, I mean now sorry Super Troopers flashback.

                    What should I try next?

Ok gang, looks like this is a Win2K issue. I have another machine that runs Win2K and also had v5, 6, and 7 on it. Up to this point I hadn't tried installing 8 on it due to my lack of success with 8 on the other Win2K machine. For giggles I went ahead and installed it on the other machine and got the same results. I happened to have a couple of movies on the second machine that were in Video TS folders and tried opening one of those, it opened just fine and processed just fine, but wouldn't burn. Keep in mind I haven't installed ImgBurn on this machine yet, so the inability to burn came as no surprise. I did see in another post where someone said they were running v8 on Win2K so I still think it is possible but I am now at a loss as to which settings I'll have to finagle to make it work on these 2 machines.

The stuff in red is the only thing that stands out to me. I would guess that's just DVDFab holding the drives since my burns are comming out clean (well while using v7)

you need to set the AWS for ImgBurn as well since ytou are burning the media at max and that not good. even though you got that message in red the burned copy will still play correctly but there is a fix for it and been posted in another thread on forum here somewhere but I not remember the thread.

Thanks for reading and offering up advice AGJ,
I have a DVD going after making the changes to AWS settings in ImgBurn. I'll edit if I still can after half an hour or reply with both logs for a working run with v7.
I still can not get v8 to load a DVD. It will successfully analyze Video_TS files. I just tried opening a ISO image file created with DVDSrink (takes you back huh) and v8 displayed the same behavior as when loading a DVD.
                              strange

I'm almost tempted to ask my brother for his Win2K computer and give DVDFab a try. The reason I have not done that yet is it would be more a hassle cleaning the computer up as he has a lot of useless junk installed and never had a anti-virus program installed as well so would be a lot of cleaning to do on it.
