I use VirtualDub and I see than length of video and audio are not the same :
      Length video : 2 47 22 64
      Length audio : 2 47 24 33
I correct it with VirtualDub : I change frame rate of video from 25.000 fps to 24.996 and now sync is OK.
It should be great to have the same possibilities with DVD Fab ?

      Sorry for my bad English.

I'm new to the forum but have lots and lots of experience troubleshooting this issue. I stumbled upon the best practices myself and have been converting to ISO first for a long time and have this sync issue with a large number of the DVD's I own, which I will try to post more information for later but for now I just posted the one I just did. I've had trouble with Beauty In The Beast, Crimson Tide, Armageddon, Jurassic Park, Year One, Adventureland, the list goes on and on and on and on. I have had lots of success with other DVD's, however. One thing that has worked for me in the past for a couple DVD's is using a different program other than DVDFab to convert to an ISO. I used DVD Shrink and sometimes those will sync up when converting to wmv, whereas the ISOs I created using DVDFab did not. Most of the time though I create an ISO with DVDFab and one with DVD Shrink and they both convert out of sync to a wmv. This is very frustrating and a big waste of time! I hope it is fixed!

I just recently converted to DVD 6.x from 5.x and the problem seemed to start there. I just recently ripped some of my home movie dvds (confirmed the sources are in sync) and noticed the audio sync "drift" progressively as I tried to convert them to AVIs with DVD Fab 6.2.0.5. By the time the video ends (app. 1 hour), the audio is 3 secs or so behind. I also tried the Midway DVD and got a similar result. Here are the particulars...

            Version: DVD Fab 6.2.0.5
            Movie: Home Movies
            Region: 1
            Disk Volume Name: 2009_Dawson_Christmas
            Title Chosen to Encode: 1
            Profile Used: generic.avi.h264.audiocopy
            Resolution Chosen: 640 x 480
            Cropping: No Crop - Disabled
            Video Bitrate: 1375
Audio Codec & Bitrate: Same as source
Single Pass or 2 Pass: 1 Pass
            Sync shift is: dynamic
Sync error is: 3 + seonds
            Playback Device: Computer using VLC
            Playback using VLC: Same problem

Can you please do the same test with the current beta version (6.1.2.6) and report results back?

Since my files are *.avi files, ...I may have found a fix. I have a program called "Virtual Dub 1.7.7" loaded on my machine. I found that the audio and video lengths were not the same. When I "re-dubbed" the files with equal lengths, my problem was corrected. Here are the steps:
                    1. Start VirtualDub 1.7.7 (don't know what other versions exist)
                    2. Open the non-synced video file (Click --> File: Open Video File)
                    3. Check to see if audio and video have same length (Click --> File: File Information)
If they have the same length, ....sorry, ...don't continue.
                    4. Ensure audio settings are correct (Click --> Audio: Source Audio (checked) and Direct Stream Copy (checked)
                    5. Ensure video settings are correct (Click --> Video: Direct Stream Copy (checked))
                    6. Make the lengths the same Open frame rate window (Click --> Video: Frame Rate)
                    7. Under the source rate adjustment section
                    - click on 3rd item called "Change so video and audio durations match"
                    8. Save the modified file with different file name (Click --> File: Save as avi)
                    9. Wait a couple of minutes....
                    10. Verify file by playing the file.

                      EDIT:

BTW - getting close to 4 months since this problem was originally reported () and 6 offiicals/11 betas later and very little word from anyone if this problem is being addressed...

Right now, my DVD to Mobile option is effectively useless...

Can't Synch A/V for any Movies

I have 6.2.1.8 installed on a 64bit Win7 quad core machine. I have tried everything for hours and hours but can't get a single movie to synch up properly. I've tried the following movies: Closer, 8Mile and Top Gun (nothing new yet). It appears most online documentation suggests using XXXX to encode. Is this simply because DVD to Mobile costs money, or is there a problem? XXXX takes forever to complete and I like the idea of having an all in one solution from DVD Fab, regardless of having to pay a couple bucks for it.

                        Settings:
                        generic.mp4.h264.aac
                        Encoding Mode: 1-Pass
                        Fixed Biterate: 1500
                        Framerate: Same as Source
                        Audio Bitrate: 32 kbps
                        Channel: Dolby ProLogic II

I've also tried converting to AVI with various different options, including generic.avi.h264.audiocopy. Any help would be appreciated. What do people find is the right balance between quality and compression for backing up their DVDs to storage? I have plenty of storage room, but 5GB for a raw backup is a bit much. I'd like to keep the file size below 1500GB or so.

                            Media Player

I primarily intend to play the files on XBox 360s scattered through the house. The XBoxes connect to a Windows Home Server machine in my basement. I have verified that I am able to play MKV files on the 360 via WMC, but I have some pent up hatred toward the usability of the WMC UI. I have not tested an M4V file on the 360 yet. Whichever solution I pick, I would like it to be a solid option for years to come. I don't want give up too much quality because I intend to convert our entire collection. I currently have 4.5TB of storage, but have cut that in half to enable software RAID (I would hate to lose all our movies due to HDD failure).

This post over at the XXXXXX forums seems to indicate that many people have had trouble with DVDFab 6:

Does anyone have a link to download an older version of DVDFab? I can play the VOB files ripped with DVDFab6 w/o an issue, but neither DVDFab nor Handbrake can convert the VOBs to MP4s.

You don't convert the VOB's. You convert the DVD structure.

Have a read of my "Best Practice: DVD to Mobile" thread (Link below)
