Right... sorry I misspoke. Regardless it does not work. I have read and followed the best practices.

FYI, a quick Google search and I was able to find a copy of DVDFab5. It seems to install fine side by side with DVDFab6.

Well, it seems to work for an awful lot of other people, me included.

Could it have anything to do with me running Win7, 64bit with a Quad Core? Is there any kind of a log file I can provide. I don't mind paying money to purchase DVDFab, the UI is nice, the speed is great and I like the idea of an all in one solution, but I would like to see it work at least once before I purchase. I understand this works for other people, but there is quite a bit of rumbling about it not working too. Is there anything I can provide to help debug the issue?

Others on this forum have reported success with the XBox using the generic.avi.xvid.audiocopy profile.

Start at 1100 bitrate and 2 pass encoding and work from there.

If you are having problems with Win 7, I suggest that you right click on the icon and "Run as Administrator".

            No luck

I'm not interested in using the xvid codec. I'd like to stick with h264 with 5.1 channel audio. As for Windows 7, I have UAC disabled and am running as a local admin.

I have finally found a solution that works. I used other software and was able to properly line-up the audio and video from a DvdFab6 rip at an acceptable h264 quality level. The only problem, is the UI and speed are... let's just say they're not nearly as nice as DvdFab (averaged 65 fps at 50% quality).

I'm running Win7 x64 on a quad core... Had the same problem with Win7 x64 on Dual core... Both systems had the same setup as kobust - UAC disabled and logged in as a local admin.

My Win XP system (P4) is way too slow to run the same exact profile tests... But I'll see if I can swing it to get some results - anything that would help get a resolution to this problem.

I don't like the quality of Xvid... WMV is better and integrates significantly better with the Xbox 360 - I paid for the software with the feature to convert to WMV, it should work or be fixed.

Regardless of the number of people that it does work for - there are more than a few people that have reported the same exact issue for multiple profiles... Clearly there has to be either a common environment related issue or a bug - neither of which have been able to be determined yet...

I'll see if I can start wasting more of my time and ripping more movies to see if I can come up with a larger list of DVDs that don't work in the hopes that someone else that is having the issue has the same DVD and can test... Though - I'd be willing to bet that there are more than a few people that use DVDFab that own R1 copies of Fight Club and Meet the Robinsons (I know I've seen people say "making a backup for the kids to scratch up" plenty of times before)...

                KMR,

I and other mods are working with the developers trying to resolve the whole audio sync issue. I think it may be a more complex issue that we both think.

I have my own test title, "Deja Vu" from which I can immediately tell if there is a problem or not. Another mod uses "Forest Gump" and yet another "Stargate - Ark of Truth".

Another user stumbled on to a point which seems to point to a problem on the authoring on these DVD's in that the video stream and the audio stream do not match in length and this has also been fed back to the developers.

I do understand the developers dilema as the problems seem to occur in only some profiles and then only at some particular settings so it is very hard to track down.

I know that this does not resolve the problem but is just to reassure that it IS being worked on.

                  Excellent

Glad to see I'm not alone here. I will give the WMV option a try to see if it displays the synch issues, but I don't like the idea of converting all of my DVDs to a Microsoft proprietary format. I'd like to maximize my chances that whatever format I pick will be a good choice for years to come.

After blowing more time than I would have liked, I am now committed to finding a solution. If any of the devs are looking for help smoke testing a solution, don't hesitate to contact me. I'm a professional dev myself (but am a noob to the world of encoders).

BTW, it would be great to see a 'constant quality' option for h.264 encoding like is available in other open source solutions. After using the constant quality option, switching back to dual pass seems like a big step in the wrong direction.

Gregi - THANKS for the update... I think I have Ark of Truth - I'll see if I can dig it out and test...

Tried Fight Club on my old XP system... Only took 6.5+ hrs for a single pass at a lower bit rate... Still doesn't work... So that rules out Windows 7 / x64 I think...

Ran 8-Mile with xbox360.wmv.wma.10 settings. No luck. Could this be an issue with a third party assembly? It's odd that this seems to be happening across the board with other software too. Other software options can't handle 8-Mile where one open source solution was able to get Closer and Up to line up properly.

Do the developers have an ETA of when they expect a new version will be released that addresses the A/V synch issues? Are there any workarounds?

As of now, I have decrypted more than 25 movies from their DVDs via DvdFab to my hard drive. I have verified that they all play properly via VLC. After encoding with DvdFab, not a single one has proper A/V synch. These folders are just sitting on my HDD waiting for a viable option to encode them. My goal is to encode with h.264 video and either passed through 5.1 channel audio or re-encoded AAC 5.1 audio.

Has anyone been able to get DvdFab to encode a movie with h.264 and AAC and have proper synch?

i can confirm, that most movies have an audio sync issue's with this new version. any movie i have a problem with works with version works in 4.2.1.0.

this is all for region 1 dvd's in ps3 mp4/h.264 code.

i now own a video store and will be updating whenever i can. i usually get movies 4 days in advance, so i hope to be of help.

also no matter what i use (windows 7, vista ultimate both 64x) the audio is out of sync. never had much of a problem before so i know this is a new update problem.

but if i use 4.2.1.0 in vista 64x, they all sync perfect. version 4.2.1.0 does not work in windows 7. automatically crashes to blue screen as soon as you try and load.

                              Along Came a Spider

This only happens on a very "Few" titles. Definite not the norm. It usually converts flawlessly for me. But I have a work around to fix the sync that I get. I think my sync issues have something to do with the layer break removal on certain titles.

                              Version: DVD Fab 6.2.2.0
                              Region: 1
                              Disk Volume Name: SPIDER
                              Title Chosen to Encode: 1
                              Profile Used: generic.avi.xvid.audiocopy
                              Resolution Chosen: 832 X 362 (FAB recommended)
                              Cropping: No Crop - Disabled
                              Video Bitrate: 1400
Audio Codec & Bitrate: Audiocopy passthrough
Single Pass or 2 Pass: 2 Pass
Sync shift is: Happens after Chapter 6 (of 12) and is static
                              Sync error is: o.4 second
                              Playback Device: Phillips 5990 37
                              Playback using VLC: Same problem

I fixed the problem by: DVD to Mobile and convert chapters 1-6 as title1 and then convert chapers 7-12 as title2. I then loaded title1 into virutualdubmod and then added segment "title2" Made sure that direct stream copy was selected and saved as title3 took 1 minute and end product didn't have any sync errors. I used this same process to fix Six Sense (earlier post)

                                Glad I'm Not Alone

Well, it's nice to hear that others are also having trouble. I tried the beta they have available, but it did not resolve anything.

It would be great to get some sort of update regarding when the A/V synch issue might be fixed. I won't buy the software until I see it work at least once and I think my trial may be close to running out.
