1m 28.14s: warning: stream tag DX50/0x30355844 incompatible with output codec id '63'
I get the above warning on any XviD or DivX I do, doesn’t seem to affect playback. I noticed the difference in the fps, mine is 29.97 US R1 if you are in a PAL region that would explain that.

I made a DivX/mp3 of “how to train your dragon” directly from the DVD this morning while watching the news and having coffee. It plays fine with VLC and on the PS3. I guess all I can tell you definitively is nothing is wrong with DVDFab.

Well no actually because you didn't answer all the questions I asked.

        1. Does your fresh rip contain all of its file properties or are they empty? I'm not asking about mediainfo properties I'm asking about the file properties that windows sees - right click on the file in windows explorer - click properties - click details tab, this info is different from MediaInfo

        2. Does your new file display a thumbnail preview? This one is actually very important, Can your windows explorer generate a thumbnail for the file?

VLC is not the answer to everything, Before 8.0.3.2 the files would play in WMP12, on the Xbox 360 dashboard and on the WDTV.

I see what you mean, WMP pukes on the avi. It can't see the time, no seek no fast forward. Explorer only makes the generic thumbnail the one with the hot air balloons. WMP will make a thumbnail and show a Ø duration. See below. There are missing elements for sure and I suppose those are a problem for you, but I respectfully disagree about VLC it is the answer. WMP will play the file just no bells and whistles.

Yes VLC is a great player, but I use WMP12 because that ties directly into the Xbox 360.

The missing information that you are also observing when using WMP and explorer is very interesting. This indicated that even for you that DVDFab is not properly including the tags needed for the file to work correctly.

WMP has been fine with no issues when using all other rips from DVDFab. It's only been the last 2 versions that have been causing this issue. Plus it was the last 2 issues when they started using their updated internal codecs.

            Coincidence.........

To further add to this, I have found a similar problem when encoding WMV files, ie NO Video, NO parameters held within file. The AVI problem is present also/

              Will be investigating over weekend.

A tip.... I will be using ABCAVI Tag editor to inspect/change the AVI tags & MP3Tag for the WMV's...

                How did your investigations go?

No matter what I've tried I get it to work.

This doesn't seem to have been addressed in the latest BETA according to the list of changes

                  Same as you...

                  Nothing changed.

This doesn't seem to have been addressed in the latest beta 8.0.4.8 either (its not stated in to release notes at least).

Do we know if the devs are looking into this?

Have you tried streaming an h.264 mp4 yet? Supposedly the XboX will play these high definition files. My grandson has one in his room and I’ll try it when he gets home from school cause I know nothing about it.

I put a couple movies that I had made for the PS3 in h264.mp4 format on a USB thumb drive and they played on the XboX 360. They seemed to have all the tags. The XboX did have to download a small codec file to play them, just took a second. I think it would be safe to assume that if the mp4 plays off the USB drive that they would stream and play ok. I can’t say for sure I didn’t fool with the extender thing.

Thanks for your help, but that's not my issue in this regard.

My issue is that it was working, an update was released, now its broken.

The xbox can and does play a variety of file types but I always find at the moment encoding to DivX or Xvid is much easier for compatibility on many different players.

MP4 h264 currently is pointless for me too as I'm not running a high def TV so until I update my TV avi's are just fine.

Ok, I thought you wanted something to stream with the tags. This is in the hands of the developers.

                            Peace

I still have the same issue in 8.0.5.0, but now the warning tag only seems to be showing when it begins its second pass.

I have done more tests but I'm still getting the same problem.

Details of my tests can be found in this post:
