MP4 to MKV strips HDR issue?

When I convert a captured 1080P MP4 with HDR to MKV the HDR disappears, the movie looks dark and won't show the HDR properly on the TV. The MP4 states that it is 10 bit BT2020, after conversion the MKV is 8 bit BT709. Is this normal to so so? How can I keep the BT2020 HDR in the MKV converted file?

The same thing happens if I use Creator to generate a Blu-Ray disc using the same captured MP4 with HDR.

In Converter, please select 10bit hevc profile, it should keep the HDR.

In Creator use UHD, as only UHD whitepaper defined HDR10.

Mona, thanks those settings worked to keep HDR10.

The resulting conversion came out very strange...........

I took a 4K/HDR10 MP4 video and converted it to a 4K/HDR10 MKV video. The converted MKV video actually has two videos side by side when played. See attached.

Any idea as to why this would happen?

It seems like you have picked an mvc profile. Please zip the log files to us, we need to check them first, thank you.

Yes, I don't know what went wrong the first time (actually took 5 hours to convert), but additional HDR conversions came out just fine.

          Thanks!
