What truly makes me feel old is when i moved last time, i found a hole puncher for 3.5" Floppy Disks. It would turn a 720k Floppy into a 1.44MB and i was so excited!

And as SF released a working direct downloaded only 8 hours after Anystream went dark, your smug conclusion that "it only took a only a matter of time" is just as ridiculous. You may be willing to pretend that all-too-coincidental timing had nothing to do with SF being handed the keys after solid 5 months of dicking around while they released a Japanese porn module, but anyone else who was paying attention knows it doesn't take that long if you're willing to hire the developers to do it, which SF clearly wasn't willing to do. You better get everything you can this time around, because if the DRM changes in a major way, you'll be back to screen recording since SF doesn't have the knowledge to pick any locks on its own.

It's been pointed out here many times that SF doesn't do their own work; nothing about it is original. So if there's another major CDM revocation, that'll probably be it for SF, since after 5 solid months they still couldn't read the writing on the wall and hire the developers needed to keep SF a direct downloader. If they hadn't bought the solution from AS - and you know the timing points to that - we'd still be stuck with a screen recorder/re-encoder while they kept adding on porn modules, because they truly just don't get it.Last edited by artsunlimited; 06-15-2024, 08:17 AM.

And if they had to pull the plug on the site, or wipe the server, or whatever exit strategy was required ahead of a seizure, court order, an arrest or any other form of prosecution, which looks to be the likeliest reason for their going dark, why should they risk doing it all over again for a third time, and for a company they don't own? They were stiffed the first time around when SlySoft was closed down owing them a lot of money, so if it were me, I'd be retiring after a good, long run, and be damn sure I stayed under the radar in whatever country I retired to. I could be wrong (and frequently am), but I can't see them risking their security or their futures to crack DRMs for SF - not unless they actually physically relocated to China where they could be protected, and I'm not sure what life as a foreign national living there would be like for them - or if it would be worth it.

You yourself write that the developers of RF/AS could be at an age where they can very well think about retiring. A good financial cushion can't hurt. We also know that they have always spoken condescendingly and disdainfully about SF. I don't think they would sell their own solution to them of all people. But they might well be pleased that people now think exactly that thanks to the "coincidence".

I tried to steer clear of this debate but i just can't anymore.
First of all, If you understand the contempt RF had for StreamFab, how can you seriously think they would sell their crack to SF?
Second, i spoke in DMs with RF1 and their solution was definitely not the ChromeCDM. Remember when Amazon stopped working for a day? That was a DRM issue. Why would there be a DRM issue if it was a cracked ChromeCDM they were using? It's obvious (to me) they had an issue with their PlayReady API and just got a new one.
Lastly, do you guys not remember getting ads upon ads upon ads for products you already own? StreamFab is here to make money. They are always trying to sell. I know we get frustrated and say they are incompetent but the one thing i am 1000% sure they know how to do is sell.
Let's run a scenario here:
The DEV has finally cracked the CDM. He tells Wilson and tells him now that it's cracked, everything can be fixed within 2 weeks. Wilson asks if it can be quicker, and DEV says the holiday is coming so no.
Thanos uses the Infinity Gauntlet to snap RF out of existence.
Wilson tells the DEV fuck 2 weeks, i need at least Amazon and Netflix NOW! DEV tells him I can do Amazon right away, but Netflix has been doing a lot of code changes to MSL so i cannot incorporate into StreamFab that quick. So, Wilson gives him a list of the newest, most popular stuff and tells him to get the keys manually outside StreamFab and to put them in the database. They need to show something right now to try and get back users who left but more importantly, getting new users out of the ones that only ever had AnyStream.
I know it's the cool thing to say that you don't believe in coincidences, but the word exists because they do exist. They happen to me all the time. My son is in the hospital and my wife is staying with him. I was home alone last night and decided to watch Civil War. I thought it was a terrible movie and i told my wife about it and she told me she also watched it from our Plex server on her laptop!
Coincidence? YES!!! I have over 8000 movies on Plex!!!
If you want to continue saying there are no coincidences, then i can tell you that you are right. It wasn't a coincidence. They cracked the CDM and were going to release a fully functioning version but then the RF situation happened, and they had to accelerate the timeline.
Is that not something plausible? I think so. But the fact remains that the most glaring argument for discarding the RF sold to SF or SF hired their DEVs is, AS was using PlayReady API and SF uses ChromeCDM.
Now i don't want to be an ass and shutdown discussions right after i made my point but this whole "coincidence" discussion is useless. I will close this thread a Noon eastern time. You can say what you have to say but i am not participating in this discussion anymore.
Hopefully StreamFab has learned their lesson and will start trying to crack the next CDM right away instead of waiting for the current one to be revoked.

Hi jpp72
Does it matter now? They are gone, and I have no idea whether they will return, but my gut tells me they would have made some announcement already. So it is my personal opinion that they are gone, so discussing this crap is just aggravating the situation. This is the Fab forum; let's discuss Fab issues and give them some credit for not giving up. Who cares how they did it? They got it done; that's all anyone has to know. This is my last post, and I will take a line from your post.

Agreed. Until I hear an explanation from a reliable source all I'm willing to believe is AS is gone. Although speculation is a valuable skill in troubleshooting in cases like this speculation is simply the larval stage of a rumor and I'm not given to rumor.
Let's just hope Fab has the foresight to run their licensing authentication service on an IP outside the reach of the MPA and other entities that take issue with what SF does so we don't see a repeat of AS with SF. At least in this way the software we paid damn good money for doesn't soil the bed overnight.Win11 Pro 22H2, no bloatware, no spyware, no crapware, no TPM, no Secure Boot, no MS account. And yes, you can dual boot 7 and 11.

Fair point. Fab finally came through, I’m grateful for it, the software is important for preservation. Quick story, I got into this because I was actually buying content through iTunes back in the day. I bought the miniseries “from the earth to the moon” it aired on HBO back in the 90s. They only had it in SD format which was no big deal because it was older so I purchased it for $100. Went back to rewatch a few months later, gone from my library because they updated to the HD version of the show and I had to rebuy with no recourse for my original $100. That was the day I found the drm remover tool for iTunes from dvdfab and the rest is history. Long live FAB
