DRM MPD GEM.CBC.ca - anyone got a workaround to get M3U8 to work on this site?

I’m sure I used to download from GEM.CBC in Canada using the M3U8 StreamFab Downloader but now it does not work.
Not sure when the problem started but now StreamFab says that it is not supported?.
Anyone have any success with this site?

There must have been changes: Earlier there was always a desktop.m3u8 - now I get index-aes.m3u8

Looks like cbc.ca changed to mpd

Germania, I’m not sure how you are managing to get Gem to download for you??
I’m in Canada, with DRM MPD access, I also pay CBC for a Premium Gem account, yet StreamFab will not recognize a Gem program that can be downloaded!
I also tried 6213, as you did, but no joy.
Totally confused. I tried my VPN but it would not allow access outside of Canada.

I was lucky with the title selection ..
.. if m3u8 is used, it fails with the known error as before => here

With m3u8 SF uses yt-dlp and that fails - I get

Failed to parse JSON (caused by JSONDecodeError(\"Expecting value in '': line 1 column 1 (char 0)\"))

Seems like the API we were using has finally been turned off. {source}

Thanks Germania, but I thought the users did not have the option to choose between which DRM to use?
Should StreamFab not automatically use MPD if that is the DRM needed?
Anyway, the downloading from GEM still fails for me.

The user (or SF) will probably not be able to choose m3u8 or mpd

When cbc.ca uses m3u8 or mpd is not clear to me ..
.. but the most likely thing is that protected and unprotected videos are handled differently
