    StreamFab for Windows v6.2.1.5

Anyone else having issues with upgrading (or installing) v6.2.1.5? When I upgraded, it broke the software on my machine (I upgraded from 6.2.1.4)....the software would crash every time you tried to run it. So I downloaded the full install of 6.2.1.5, and it never installs; it just hangs on "Checking Files. Please Wait" for hours. I had a download of 6.2.0.6, and it installed without a problem within a few minutes.

I downloaded the x64 offline installer, and that was able to get things back to 6.2.1.5 successfully. I think the updater and the online installer both need work.

If you did a clean install (as documented in the yellow "Sticky" section of the forum) you wouldn't have any problem.

Something Germania told me a while back has made me change the way i handle new versions of StreamFab and since then, i have never had to do a full clean install

Obviously, this should work if your StreamFab is fully working as intended. Also, this only works with the Offline Installer:
          • If StreamUpdate.exe is running, kill the process
          • Rename %ProgramFiles%\StreamFab to %ProgramFiles%\StreamFab<4 Digit Version> ie. StreamFab6213
          • Install StreamFab v6.2.1.5 from Offline Installer. It will Install in %ProgramFiles%\StreamFab
          • Make sure the installer options has the Create Desktop Shortcut unchecked
Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	228.9 KB ID:	457768
          • Try out the new features. If all is good, great
          • If that version is borked (like 6.2.1.4), create a shortcut to StreamFab.exe in the StreamFab6213 folder
          • Use 6.2.1.3 as usual
          • Once a new version comes out, rename the %ProgramFiles%\StreamFab folder once again before installing the new version
This way, you can flip between versions at will instead of having one version on your desktop and a different version on your laptop, etc...

This also means you don't have to keep re-adding the StreamFab shortcut for the latest version to your taskbar if you like having it there.

I have been doing this for at least a couple dozen versions and i have never needed to do a clean install since.

P.S. You can flip between versions as long as new settings haven't been introduced. When new settings are added to StreamFab you should not switch to an earlier version that don't have those settings or it might mess things up (speculating here but i'd rather err on the side of caution).

Currently, my International and my US machine's DVDFab folder looks like this:

Click image for larger version Name:	image.png Views:	0 Size:	11.0 KB ID:	457769

I think it's safe to now delete my 6208 folder but keep 6213 just in case i come across something that doesn't work in 6215 but works in 6213. i was using 6.2.0.8 only until the output template was finally fixed. 6213 was my new gold standard but hopefully 6215 will be the new one as it does have 1080p Disney+

Same problem here. I couldn't get the installer to complete the installation so I eventually downloaded the Offline Installer and it worked.

I think it's all getting too mixed up. You have to differentiate between the offline installation file of around 400 MB and the file that this junk updater downloads, sometimes only 20 MB.

Germania 's instructions refer to the 400 MB file! Please note that if you go this route.

That's the key to why you'd always want to do a clean install. You have no way of knowing how they do their settings configuration from one version to the next. As a super simplistic example, they could store their data in one version as:

              Data #1
              Data #2
              Data #3

and the next version could be:

              Data #3
              Data #2
              Data #1

Not to mention, going back and forth for over a month with versions that downloaded and then recorded, rinse, repeat. A lot of users got majorly messed up when Wilson decided to try to recreate CleverGet. Without wiping all the previous data as with a clean install, everyone got strange nonworking results when they went from one version to another. Germania and your method are fine for you guys because you are experienced and knowledgeable about SF. If something goes wrong, you'd have no problem fixing it. The ones that need to consistently do the clean install (exactly as written) are mainly those with 20 or fewer posts on the forum. I haven't taken any formal accounting, but I'm thinking that right now the 20 or fewer folks probably make up greater than 50% of the posts here. I've said it so many times, I've lost count - New users need to read and not write.
