This thread is assuming you have Windows 11 (or maybe even 10) and that you probably use Media Player Classic HC.
This is a frequently asked question in this forum. "Why does my video look gree" or "dull and pink"?
The simple answer is you downloaded an HDR10 or Dolby-Vision coded video, and your playback software or device does not support the format. If your display cannot play that format natively, your playback software needs to do what's called tone mapping, which is basically realigning the color space from an HDR format to a SDR display.
Out of the box, VLC player will tone map HDR10 to SDR with no special tweaks.
For Dolby Vision though, it looks like Media Player Classic HC will do it for you, as well as HDR10.
The setting or renderer you are looking for within MPC-HC is this:
- MPC Video Renderer***
***See very last attachment below. This is the secret setting I was looking for. While playing back a video, you can right click and select:
Options-->Output-->select MPC Video Renderer in the choices --> Select Settings on the same line, then click the HDR to SDR button.
I have attached thumbnails of what videos look like that are not properly tone mapped.
The GREEN looking pics are Dolby Vision.
The grey/pink looking pics are HDR10.

When I play back in MPC-HC, the video shows the right properties.
