How to get AAC 2.0 128 when only AAC 5.1 192 is offered in SF
I don't necessarily want to force AAC, I just want to be able to get the video with AV1, with whatever audio is offered. I am going to do a few things on this end and supply a fresh log. This will of course require resetting my login, which is almost impossible to fix afterwards. I suspect it's something SF knows about as they closed the ticket out rather quickly and did not respond to a follow up question/response.

In your examples, the file size is a wee bit smaller than what I see on the initial analysis screen.

That depends on which episode was analyzed previously.

In any case, every SF version has downloaded AV1 for me so far (AAC or EAC)

Here is an updated log. I renamed the Temp directory, which contains cache and deleted the log files.

For some reason the log does not like to attach to a message with an image.

            NCIS.s01e01 NF USA

With your settings and your selection (same bitrate)
            and SF 6250, I get also only H264 - no AV1

Then I switched NF Audio Codec from Atmos to AAC
(because s01e01 have only AAC) - but this change nothing.

Then I tried with 720p which I had previously received in AV1
with 6247+6257 and get also H264 - and surprise: also with 6257

After that I tried with a different vpn and a different NF account
and by the way I noticed, that I see always the same bitrate + size
            no matter which video codec I select: max 4712 kbps - it's H264 !
But the correct max AV1 bitrate is 3497 kbps !

            After I got a gray hair, I simply start + analyzed s01e02
and selected s01e02+01 - and it worked with FHD AV1 for both:

=> No logical explanation - just my experience report

My new favorite game: Find the difference

            wrong

            correct

To compare: Different maximum bitrates for H264 and AV1

Thanks for experimenting. Yes, I did switch the audio codecs long before posting to see if it was that simple.
I would assume analyzing s01ep02 that you cannot simply dl episode 1 at that point? It forced you to do both? How would you get e03 and beyond?
I am having the same result from s02 as well. S03 has eac 5.1 so it works fine.
And of course, way back, anything else that has 2.0 audio (like Pokemon, Rainbow High).

Is this where we ask Wilson.Wang to investigate? I cannot get past level 1 on the official SF support page. They tell me what they always tell me, delete the temp folder and logs folder.

We are obviously seeing an issue where 2.0 AAC audio breaks something with AV1 stream detection. What is it about ep02 that changes it?

I can't say whether it was coincidence ..
.. but after not receiving s01e01 as AV1 several times, the solution
was to start playing ep2 and then perform a manual analysis.
In doing so, I would probably have received not only the first two,
but all of them correctly. Perhaps only analyzing ep1 is problematic.

I'll try it with s02 this weekend - but not right now.

The answer is possibly: Update to current version (support for 6250 ?)

I updated all of my saved 200 NF series to AV1 + AAC.
Apart from a few isolated instances of pixelation
(but never in US series), I haven't had any problems.

As long timers here we like to say if it ain't broke don't fix it. There have been no specific NF fixes.
I guess I probably could install to a different folder like so many people do. Is a pain in the arse though to keep switching versions bc at the moment I feel as though they broke the Peacock module. (auto analyze no matter what the setting, and cannot analyze specific episodes / seasons).

So that I am understanding your workflow.
                    Running 6257.
Make sure auto analyze is not turned on.
Click the carat and play episode 2.
Click the analyze button while playing.
Select episode 1 also, even though episode 2 is selected.
Click download. There will be 2 episodes in the download queue.

I did that workflow, still getting h264. Still getting the h264 file sizes in the download window even though it says av1.

It sounds like we know av1 is possible somehow. It's just a process from there and which combination of buttons to press.
In the attached log, I clicked cancel after it shows h264 is downloading.

Yep, thank you for the correct summary.

Since AAC is my default setting, I usually don't notice if only AAC is offered.
Otherwise, I could assess whether there is a correlation with the audio codec offered.

                      -= NCIS.s02e01 =-

I played s02e01, analyzed it, and was offered 6236 kbps for H264 and 5677 kbps for AV1 ..
.. and I get AV1 right away on the first try:

Then cross-check with 6250 - same results (DL starts with AV1)

btw: D+ UK also offer only AAC 128 for NCIS s01+s02 - but PV offer EAC3
