HBO Max Can't Download H265 HDR10 only & Remux Settings Ignored

Can someone please try to download House of the Dragon S01E01 @ 1080p H265 HDR10?

I can't seem to do it. If I choose HDR10, it downloads DoVi + HDR10. If I choose DoVi, I get just DoVi. I want HDR10 without DoVi.

HDR Format looks like this when I select HDR10:

    Code:
    Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, Profile 8.1, dvhe.08.03, BL+RPU, no metadata compression, HDR10 compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, Version HDR10, HDR10 compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, Version HDR10, HDR10 compatible

HDR Format looks like this when I select Dolby Vision:

    Code:
Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, Profile 5, dvhe.05.03, BL+RPU, no metadata compression

What it should look like for just HDR10 is:

    Code:
    SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible
Not only is the metadata wrong (duplicated) in the HDR10 file, it is written by MKVMerge when my settings say to use FFMpeg.

Furthermore, when using hdr10plus_tool.exe on the file that is supposed to be HDR10, i get the error: Invalid PPS index

If i then use the same mkvmerge (v92.0) to remux the file, i no longer get the Invalid PPS index error.

So that means, not only is SF using mkvmerge instead of ffmpeg, the mkvmerge command is not right.

I can remove the DoVi with DDVT but i'd rather just download the file that way already!

For HBO Max, HDR10 always comes with DV hybrid, it's just how they choose to do. nothing can change on SF side.

Talk about idiotic. What's the point of having just DoVi then? Yet another example that common sense is not so common...

Why do you think the setting and tag are called
Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) and not only HDR10 ?

It's been the same for the last two years ..
        .. Max doesn't offer HDR10 without DoVi

Because StreamFab's radio button says HDR10.

I only started using HBO Max after the whole Amazon warning messages. It hasn't been consistent at getting 1080p, and it only has 1 bitrate per resolution. I always preferred the HBO/Max channel on PrimeVideo because I could choose more reasonable bitrates. If I can only have 1 bitrate, then might as well get the HDR10 one.

Right now, I am baffled at the size of the H265 HDR10 file vs.the H265 SDR file. I guess I am going to have to test transferring the HDR10 metadata from the hybrid file to the SDR file and see what comes of it...

It's the way SF presents the streams, HBO do actually have a reason:- "DoVi" format is for devices that support profile 5 (Dolby colour space, better coding efficiency), "HDR10" is for devices that support either DoVi profile 8 (more generic) or HDR10

Ya when removing the DoVi RPU and EL with DDVT, I noticed that the standalone DoVi was 5 and the hybrid was 8. Still debating on whether I want to stick with SDR or get the HDR10 and re-encode to more sensible bitrates.

SF should change the labels of the radio buttons to be DoVi 8/HDR10 and DoVi 5 to make it clearer

jpp72 are you getting subtitles from HBO, or is that a known issue?

I just downloaded House of the Dragon, The Last of Us, The Penguin and Who the (BLEEP) Did I Marry? with 6.2.4.8 and they all have subs. I remux into the MKV.

My settings say MKV with FFmpeg but seems like it's using MKVMerge

Huh... I just got Avenue 5 and no subs came through for whatever codec I selected, although I do have my setting set as "keep original format," a bug Wilson.Wang?

“Extract Original format” has never worked for me with Max - with any SF version

That's most bizarre- it dumps vtt into outputTemp, so joining them would be trivial, perhaps just an oversight that nobody whined enough about...

I personally prefer plain text subs. No positioning or styling. As a matter of fact, in my Kodi settings, i tell it to disable all styling and positioning for all subs.
