I just noticed by coincidence that nearly all of my 4K downloads have a darkish green/violet color filter throughout the entire movie. This must have started ever since the 4K availability was introduced last SF version but is also happening on the latest one that I updated yesterday. Has anyone experienced the same issue yet? The 1080p extras like trailers or special scenes are fine, just not some of the 4K stuff (movies, IMAX extras, etc.). It’s because you’re downloading something and playing that while your system is literally incapable of playing… Do you have Dolby Vision support on the thing that you’re playing the download on? If not, why are you playing it, it’s like playing stereo on a mono speaker and then complaining that you’re only getting mono sound…

I guess I have to download those movies twice now, 1x with best quality overall and 1x with best quality for my device. Thanks for the heads up. I'm kind of relieved that it wasn't some error and everything is working as it should. 😅

Just play it on a regular 4k tv, and it’ll look fine. You can go for hdr10 for pc playback… if your system supports hdr10 play back. Similar with sound though, right, if the best your computer can do is aac, you’ll get silence if you try playing e-ac-3

I found a solution for my situation to play the Dolby Vision movies on my unsupported PC. There is a player named MPV. Just tested it and works great. So I can use the Dolby Vision files instead of downloading DV content twice with different quality. Thanks though for pointing out the initial issue. 🙏🏻

That probably just tone-maps your DoVi video to SDR using OpenGL/OpenCL so chances are that you’re not even getting the HDR experience, a smaller 1080p HEVC would have the same result (and not waste energy on DoVi->SDR conversion) 🤷‍♂️

Additionally, It was confirmed by Wilson that D+ only has files to download that are DoVi profile 5 (Dolby Vision only), or SMPTE ST 2086 (HDR10 only), unlike HBOMax which has files that are DoVi 8 and 7 (includes Dolby Vision with fallback to HDR10)

Partially true.
There is plenty of 4K content out there with no sort of HDR grade applied to it. MOST 4K downloads from YT have no sort of HDR to it. As far as disc companies, Kino Lorber has released a bunch of stuff with no HDR. Criterion I think has released one or two.

To address the stated need of @JeRicHoOL (future proofing your videos) — For modules that offer both DV and HDR10 downloads, I’ve started downloading both versions, then using DDVT to create a hybrid DV Profile 8 video that is also compatible with HDR10. It is fast (muxes) and the resulting file is only a tiny bit larger than an individual file. I’ve done it for movies and TV from both Fandango and ATV+ and have only had a few videos that would not combine properly.

The only negative about DDVT is that it is can’t (AFAIK) automate it out of the box. The scripts currently pause after analyzing both files and make you press ‘S’ to Start. I’ll be asking the author their recommendation to bypass that.

AnttDvdFab DDVT is just a wrapper, look at the flow it has under the bonnet and create your own automation 🤷‍♂️

AnttDvdFab I’ve started doing the same. Download both versions 4k dolby and 4k hdr10 and use DDTV.
The steps I follow are:

Drag the Dolby mp4 into DDVT_DEMUXER.cmd (This creates a rpu.bin file converted to profile 8.1)
Drag the HDR10mp4 into DDVT_INJECTOR.cmd
The terminal will ask for different files, only drag the RPU.bin created in step 1 and press Enter, then press Enter to skip the other files.

This inject the Dolby metadata into the HDR10 video, having both in one file.
If anybody have a better solution, let me know. I have a Dolby Vision tv, but I also want to be able to watch it in my pc without having to do tone mapping.

0xFeedBeef Yes, it is just a script and can be shimmed, but I prefer not to modify scripts if possible to avoid having to modify them every time there is an update. Implementing a command line option like –silent /q, etc., is pretty standard and is something that everyone in the future can benefit from. In this case, since it matches the pattern already used, adding a “SILENT_MODE” setting to the ini when using DDVT_OPTIONS.cmd is the approach they would probably take.

Tis the season, let’s feed the masses. I may even submit a PR to do it.

AnttDvdFab you don’t need to modify it, just write your own, it really doesn’t do anything magical, and the dovi_tool has a trivial interface 🤷‍♂️

jagarridomartin I just use the DDVT_HYBRID.cmd script. Run it then:

Drop on the HDR10 video
Drop on the DV video
Wait until it prompts you and then press S to start the progress.

With this approach I don’t have to deal with the .bin files.
