Green/Violet Color Filter on 4K movies

I just noticed by coincidence that nearly all of my 4K downloads have a darkish green/violet color filter throughout the entire movie. This must have started ever since the 4K availability was introduced last SF version but is also happening on the latest one that I updated yesterday. Has anyone experienced the same issue yet? The 1080p extras like trailers or special scenes are fine, just not some of the 4K stuff (movies, IMAX extras, etc.). What could be causing this issue?

It’s because you’re downloading something and playing that while your system is literally incapable of playing… Do you have Dolby Vision support on the thing that you’re playing the download on? If not, why are you playing it, it’s like playing stereo on a mono speaker and then complaining that you’re only getting mono sound…

That could be it. I don’t have Dolby Vision but I want to download the best possible quality to make the files somewhat future proof. I guess I have to download those movies twice now, 1x with best quality overall and 1x with best quality for my device. Thanks for the heads up. I’m kind of relieved that it wasn’t some error and everything is working as it should. 😅

Just play it on a regular 4k tv, and it’ll look fine. You can go for hdr10 for pc playback… if your system supports hdr10 play back. Similar with sound though, right, if the best your computer can do is aac, you’ll get silence if you try playing e-ac-3

I found a solution for my situation to play the Dolby Vision movies on my unsupported PC. There is a player named MPV. Just tested it and works great. So I can use the Dolby Vision files instead of downloading DV content twice with different quality. Thanks though for pointing out the initial issue. 🙏🏻

That probably just tone-maps your DoVi video to SDR using OpenGL/OpenCL so chances are that you’re not even getting the HDR experience, a smaller 1080p HEVC would have the same result (and not waste energy on DoVi->SDR conversion) 🤷‍♂️

I always have to download my videos twice because those stupid Samsung devices don’t support Dolby Vision… 🤷‍♂️

D+ seems to offer HDR10+ for Sammy TV, don’t know if peeps at SF can get at that though

EDIT: apparently it doesn’t take you right to the post for some reason. Just look at the Dec 4, 2024 post from that thread. (it is the 15th post).

Additionally, It was confirmed by Wilson that D+ only has files to download that are DoVi profile 5 (Dolby Vision only), or SMPTE ST 2086 (HDR10 only), unlike HBOMax which has files that are DoVi 8 and 7 (includes Dolby Vision with fallback to HDR10)

Removing Dovi 5 and replacing it with Dolby 8 is not a problem, or rather it is just a matter of time
same thing adding dovi 8 to an HDR10
I forgot, Intel PC minimum 13th or 14th generation and Nvidia RTX 4090 to 5090

Media Player Classic Home Cinema will tone map to play on your non HDR display.

Partially true.
There is plenty of 4K content out there with no sort of HDR grade applied to it. MOST 4K downloads from YT have no sort of HDR to it. As far as disc companies, Kino Lorber has released a bunch of stuff with no HDR. Criterion I think has released one or two.
