    MS Support For RAID HDs

    Hello DvdStuff

    I have a Raid HD, but MS does not detected it -- Not sure if you guys are aware; Or are you? And if you are, hopefully a simple firmware update can fix this issue in the next update;

Or, unless I am the only having issue with a Raid HD!

Anyone else tried using a Raid HD, and if so, what's your results?

    Thanks
    Ish

Which RAID mode and which type of controller (chipset, like Intel or software)? Does Server just not see it? I have an Intel-based 2-drive RAID 0 array that works.

Not sure what you mean by a Raid HD. Are you talking about a HD that was formally used in a RAID setup on some computer? If so did you reformat that drive to one of the supported formats?

        Hi,

The only example for now, until I take a screenshot here at home are these:

Type this at Amazon, and see how they connect: (hope that makes sense)
        Seagate 2TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM SATA2 3.0Gb/s (Heavy-Duty) Internal Desktop 3.5" Hard Drive -NAS/RAID/PC/DVR

        and compare to this:

SEAGATE ST3000DM001 Barracuda 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" internal hard drive (Bare Drive) Bare Drive

If it's still not clear then disregard, and at a later time I'll take screenshot of my hard drives at home, and display how they connect!

        Regards
        Ish

          Hi Ish,

OK understand now. "RAID" HDs have features the allow them to work well in RAID setups. Other than that they should be fully compatible with non-RAID setups.

With a brand new disk you have to create a partition and format it - did you do that?

            Hello Frederick

Yes, sir, you're right on that point!

Actually, Frederick, I did format it, but no partitions were created; However, since this is a different kind of HD due to it's connection, in the next few days I'll do that: I'll re-format, and create a partition to see if that works!

If anything, I'll update this thread!

            Kind Regards
            Ish

Partitioning comes before formatting - no partition means there is nothing to format.

What sort of connection does this HD have?

                Hi Frederick,
Been a while I haven't really dealt with HD's, however, I have partition the new HD, but haven't really test this out since it's not a priority now -- I have other HDs that's working great with the HD! -- I will do this at a later time, and update thread with results!

Also, at a later time I'll take a screenshot of this HD connection --- a picture is worth a thousand words, sir! LOL

                Kind regards
                Ish
