DVDFab (UI/General) DVDFab 9 not remembering settings

OK, Tried out 9 and it seems to work just fine so far (I haven't tried all the modes yet) except for 2 issues I noticed. Don't know if this should actually go into "Feature Requests" and haven't been able to find any posts on this.

Issue #1) 8 (and the previous versions) used to remember which of my burners I used last, 9 seems to default back to the lowest letter drive EVERY time so that I must reselect my drive that I want to use as burner for each disc I process. I haven't been able to find any .ini file to edit to settings. I did find a config.xml file, but when I tried to open it I got the following error message:

This page contains the following errors:
error on line 380 at column 4: StartTag: invalid element name

Issue #2) Previous versions played a sound when the processing was finished and the drive tray was ejected. 9 waits until you select "OK" button from the "Process Completed successfully" pop-up. I am used to listening for the sound to notify me when a disc is done, not for the sound of the tray ejecting.

    Do you mean this function?

Common Settings -> General -> Sound (play sound when event occurs)
I'm not a genius, but to make every effort to do it.

      Having two problems with DVDFab9:
#1) There is no box to select not to open output directory when done. This was an issue in the new DVDFab8 until many people ask that it not open and a box was added.

#2 With DVDFab9 program open and you are backing up more than one DVD to the same directory on the hard drive. You have to select the target directory each time. DVDfab8 would stay at a directory until the program was shut down and opened again.

      Thanks,

Googled "DVDFab doesn't remember settings" and got here.

I'm running 9.0.4.2 and am finding that every time I turn open ripper none of my previous settings are there. It's always defaulting to record an audio.mp3 and never remembers the folder that I like to rip to. I'm sure that this is supposed to be a bug report.

            We cannot reproduce your problem.

If you want to save profile settings, you need use "Save as Default Profile" feature.

I can't duplicate this either with v9.0.4.3 on Win7. Make sure DVDFab has administrator permissions by running the installer and the program itself using "As Administrator" if your Windows user account is not admin.

It remembers everything, just use the right settings and press the Okay button. Then restart. Everything should be as you set it. I am 71 and I wish I could remember this well.

The main setting changes I'm making are the output format and the default save location. I've saved changes and started a rip. Once ripping I've set the when all tasks are done option to shutdown as I don't leave my system on during the day. When I power up again I am left with the default settings once more.

A 2nd point. Can the forced subtitles checkbox be moved out of the dropdown again? For some reason I keep getting full subtitles instead of foced unless I triple check the settings before I start ripping. Somewhere along the line it is unchecking forced subtitles for some reason.

There is an "always" checkbox in Common Settings in v9 for display only forced, you can find it at the top of the Conversion->Convert page.

Confirm this is a bug, DVDFab could not remember the settings when select "Shut down PC after converting done" option.
But it should remember the setting if close DVDFab normally.

My computer has not been powered down in 8 months, so I never noticed this bug.

Found that now thanks. 9.0.4.4 installed and it appears to be remembering settings thusfar. Unfortunately, only displaying forced subtitles doesn't appear to be working unless the encoding of the UK "lethal weapon" boxset is breaking it (all 4 films). Will try with another DVD.

Edit: thinkng on my feet but I'm fairly certain there are no forced subtitles on any of those 4 films. Is it possible that the program is recording all subtitles when it can't find any forced ones?

I can confirm that if you have to "end task" thru task manager, that the common settings are not saved.

Why was I closing the program that way? Because clicking on the cancel button on "Please insert blank disc" wasn't doing anything.

Please report the DVDFab version number you are using. Trying to cancel the opening disc process can take several tens of seconds in some cases.
