fengtao, while we at it can you consider adding option to tweak encoder for example changing maximum motion vector search range from default of 16 to something else like 24 which is really helpful for 720 and 1080P videos.

Another thing I will like to see tune encoder for specific media type. Example could be film, animation, grain, still image

Ability to set custom output size.

My message is about ability to add and customize encoder. (You can write disclaimer for advanced user only, this way those who know what they are doing can choose customize encoder for their needs and remaining stick to default)

Software-based CRF will be available in next beta version, which should be out in this week.

Great to hear....I will happily test this against ffmpeg (via my AutoIt frontend) and "another product".

Edit: Are you interested in comparison with other tools & feedback ?. May be only via PM / e-mail ?

I posted my experiences in the general chat section:

This beta has greatly enhanced. I can't wait to see CUDA-based CRF although up to 60 FPS for full 1080p backup is really fast enough

                    Bit Rate for Encoding

I'm not sure what your limits are on disk space but I do everything at 1 byte per .5 pixel which translates to roughly 18.5 Mbps. VQ is amazing but I would like to be able to go in and change some of the actual encoder settings. I would like to use more reference frames for instance - odd I know at the bitrate I use, you'd think I shoot straight I frame or I and P only but... How close are you to giving us more control of the encoder parameters? 30 years experience gives me a better handle on the effects of theses settings. Any filters or pre-processing on the drawing boards? MCTF?

This may not be said enough to you guys (and ladies) but you have an excellent program here. Keep up the good work.

I am not limited in disk space by any means since I store my backups in combination as either MKV on single layer BDs and on a NAS. When you use high bitrate (e.g. > 18 MBit/s) most movies will look perfecty but (!) you essentially "waste" diskspace.

I would bet 100 bucks that 99% of the peoples out there can not tell the difference when you play a CRF 20 encoding with the original BD side by side on a standard TV (e.g. 32" or 42").

Essentially many movies have very little details which results in extremely small files while the quality still looks great (e.g. Hänsel & Gretel - Witchhunter which was only 5GB big). The only movies I found to have a lot of details (= huge bitrates needed for good quality) are mostly those which are either fully or partially CGI. Avatar was one of this examples.

More exposed x264 settings are really a niche option but those who can deal with it, will be thankful. Free tools (as the one with the Pineapple) provide those options and I can rarely see a true reason why DVDFab does not.

You can edit preset file in "X:\Program Files (x86)\DVDFab 9\profiles6\preset\" folder to try many x264 settings

Please check which preset file was used in profile file at first.

Thanks for the hint ! Actually I do not really feel like editing any preset files which get possibly overwritten by the next update unless this is supported by the manufacturer

Honestly I have seen those preset files and thought about modding them.

I have done a few, just experimenting. Probably should save any that you want to keep outside of the \DVDFab9 folder.
