Movie Server - Basic Edition?

I've been considering the DVDFab Movie Server for some time. The reason I haven't invested is partly to do with price and some functionality.

What I'd like to know is there any plans to release hardware that doesn't have an internal drive bay, but still encompasses the existing software. But is more suited to NAS and external USB hard drives, but at a slightly cheaper price? Thanks.

Not to my knowledge. The advantage to the self-contained drive is portability, but I can see that's not an issue for everyone.
