    DVD Copy Readback verify

I have experienced several copies that play until they get near the end, only to find they are unreadable beyond some point.

It would be *really* appreciated if, after writing the copy, a readback-verify could be done to confirm the integrity of the copy.

FYI: I have taken to doing nothing on the computer while running dvdfab, but that has not helped.

DVDFab has this ability already, you can enable it in Common Settings->Drives->DVD (or Blu-ray) Write. It is the middle checkbox. It runs automatically after the burn is finished. This is generally caused by edge wobble on single layer discs or burning too fast. Note that a disc that verifies correctly in your pc drive may still have problems in a stand-alone player.

Thank you for your reply signals. It sounds like you are suggesting that the reliability of the write can be increased by burning slower; is that true? If so, how do I control the burn speed?

Right now the speed is set to "recommended". Does that default mean the fastest available speed?

This is 100% correct. The “Recommended” setting is fine for high quality blanks like Verbatim and a drive that is in tip top mechanical shape, but as a practical matter is almost always too fast. Try selecting 8x, and if you still have problems, reduce it again to 6x or 4x. The problem here is that there are 4 variables at work determining playback quality: quality of blank media, recording speed, accuracy of the write strategy for your blanks and capabilities of the drive in your player. The easiest things you can control of these are the write speed and the blanks.

Watch for these symptoms: picture breakup or similar near the end of a single layer blank DVD or breakup or sluggish layer changes near the middle of the movie. Both of these happen at the outer edge of the disc and usually can be fixed by slowing the burn speed.
