BD Ripper (3D Plus) Extract regular and forced subtitles

As of today, one can either extract the subtitles as is, or only the forced subs.
I would like to have both.

I.e. select any full sub stream, and for each sub stream, select if a forced only sub should be created.

    E.g. English [yes/no]
    English (forced only) [yes/no]

(And the ability to embed the subs in the MKV and not external files)

    Thank you

I think this would be difficult to do automatically, since on some discs the forced subs are in a different stream than the normal ones.

      Are you sure?

My understanding is that "forced" is an attribute of a subtitle.
As such, logic would be extract entire stream, and / or extract stream and only include subtitles with the forced flag set.

Other tools such as MakeMKV already support this, and creates two separate streams in the MKV.

For DVDs at least I am quite sure that forced subs can be either in the stream with the main subs or in a stream of their own (more common with older titles). The streams are seldom tagged as "forced subs" on modern DVDs and in any event the actual forcing is controlled by a forced start command in the DCSQT, which any software would have to scan to identify. So on a DVD where the forced subs are in the same stream as the main subs, it would require creating a new stream, muxing it and updating the IFO files, adding greatly to the processing times (but I guess it could be done). The differences in the way sub streams are handled on different titles is the element that would make automation difficult. I have never seen a Blu-ray with "standalone" forced subs but I would guess it is possible. I am not familiar with the software you mentioned.

          Hi ptr727,

It's possbile, but we need work on new UI to support it, maybe next big update will have it.

          Best Regards,

Thank you, that would be great.

The one area where I think DVDFab is lacking is subtitles, and is the only reason I sometimes use other tools, like MakeMKV that has much fewer features compared to DVDFab, but has great subtitle support.

In all my years of ripping DVDs I've only recently come across a DVD that has one subtitle stream of which a few items are flagged as forced (Bram Stoker's Dracula RC1). All other DVDs had a seperate "regular" stream containing only the forced items.

                It applies to BD.

E.g. See here for a list of BD titles with forced subs:
