How fast should whole process be?

I have a core i7 920 6gb ram,gtx285 video card and rippeing and burning a movie takes close to a half hours approx every time. i thought it would be faster. i am burning at 16x. during rip I only see up to maybe 5mb/s.

another thing is when i open dvdfab and throughout the process my magic jack usb drive (which shows up as a cd drive) thing pops up like when you first plug it in and asks what i want to do but it goes away. but it keeps doing that repeatedly.

Your read speed is slow. The Majicjack problem is a software conflict due to the majicjack driver's unconventional use of SPTI. You may get better results by disconnecting the magicjack or putting DVDFab is ASPI mode in Common Settings. If your system is set up so that the read drive and the drive that hosts the temp or output folders are on the same controller, the processing speed will be much slower--check your configuration. Avoid burning at 16X unless you are very confident of your media and burner.

Ok im running ahci for the sata hdd and dvd-rw. i put the hdd on sata port 0 and the dvd-rw on sata port 2. Still no improvement looks like it actually may have gotten a little worse. I tried setting aspi and dvdfab wouldnt recognize the dvd.

You may need an ASPI driver--the generic one (WinASPI32.dll I think) is still available free from microsoft. The firmware/driver for some optical drives has a "quiet mode" that prevents the high read speeds that DVDFab can use. If you haven't already, install ImgBurn or devfilter (both free) and check to make sure that there is not a conflict with optical drive device filters in the registry placed by other software. With ImgBurn, under Tools, select "Filter driver load order". Devfilter works similarly but you'll be able to select the drive you want to look at first. Anything that supports drag and drop burning to CD or DVD may cause a problem. From what you say it sounds like the devices are on the same physical controller, which is not the preferred configuration for optimum performance. Maybe someone with a similar system configuration will have some better ideas you can try. The high end hardware you have should be able to read and process a standard DVD at 9-12MB/s (without compression) or faster.

Looks like I solved my issue with rip speed. One of these two things fixed it. I updated the firmware on my drive and installed intel matrix storage manager.

            Hi NameBrand,

I was asked by my good friend signals to take a look here. It seems we have very similar systems, but I see I've shown up late...

Good to hear you're up and running somoothly
