Quesioning myself on settings & quality rips??

Hello. I have used dvdfab for years to rip my dvds & blu-ray movies into my home pc library. Its my favorite software, I have been greatly satisfied with it, but now I wonder if I have been doing in wrong all this time?

My question is this....If you have a 720 or 1080 quality disc and you rip it into the pc, why wouldnt it copy at the same quality? I just realized that my whole catalog is showing that it was ripped in 480 quality. Did I miss a setting somewhere? I definitely dont understand some of the settings within the program, so which ones should I be checking to get the best quality??

Thanks in advance....it would also be helpful if someone explained it to me in "dvdfab for dummies" language.

All NTSC (US type) DVDs are 720x480. If you are using DVD Copy to put these on your hard drive (i.e. using Full Disc, Main Movie, Customize copy modes) the only possible quality loss you might have would be if you set the output size to DVD-5 instead of DVD-9. Otherwise you will have the same quality as the original disc.

If you are using DVD Ripper (formerly DVD to Mobile) the quality may not be quite as good as the original depending on your choices for codec, resolution, bitrate etc.

DVDs are 480p Blurays are 1080p, DVD players say the up convert through video processing but will only convert up to 1080i and thats about a 2 million pixel diff. Now I'm not to sure about and disc's being released in 720p
