CBR- Thank you for the link.
Signals- I want at least one of the older versions, because before I had my PC formatted I could write any dvd in DVDFab to a blank disc. I noticed that I don't have in my program files, (which I did before it was formatted) a program called VSO, with Pcsetup, and other things that probably helped me burn my DVDS. Now, I don't have that VSO folder, and I'm wondering if that could be the problem. I do know why so many here are pushing Imgburn to use, instead of the vso burn engine. If the vso engine that is a part of DVDFab isn't any good, why include it with the newer version all the time? I have always used the vso engine before, and it always seemed to work. Never have I burned with Imgburn, and besides, I tried to try it once, and I couldn't get it to work. The instructions in d/l and using Imgburn, in conjunction with DVDFab, were difficult to follow, in order for me to finally use Imgburn as a tool. I was just hoping that one of the older versions might help, instead.
CBR, thank you for telling me about using non-crappy discs, and I would love to accomodate, but I don't have the money to buy those really expensive Verbatims, or the others that are recommended here. Why is it that I could always, and I mean, always burn with what I'm using now, and all of a sudden, they aren't good enough. This is what I am saying, maybe the older version would correct this issue. I'm at a loss, but I do know that I am not happy with this newer version that has come out. I don't know what else to do. Got any better ideas for me, as I don't live in an area where I can buy those expensive discs, anyway.
Thanks for hearing me out, and I do hope that DVDFab would have alternative solutions other than Imgburn, and pricey discs. I'm grasping at straws here.

Hi Crickkette
Your welcome for the link.
I hope you understand the reason why we say to use "Quality Media".
The reason why, is in these tough economic times manufactures do what ever they have to do to make a profit.
I myself used crappy media when I started out, and when I joined DVD Fab in 2009 I did a lot of reading of the posts and wondered why some of my burns failed, the reason "crappy media".
I can not tell you how many of my backups started having problems with freezing and not working at all within a year or less, and every time I would take the disc and put it in my computer and use ImgBurn to get the MID "the media ID" of the disc and every time it was a crappy media I had used, so I burnt another copy using a Verbatim disc and I can honestly say not one time have I ever had a problem with a disc after it was burnt using Quality Media.
If interested here is a link that explains media quality
The Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim with the AZO dye on the package disc's can be bought online for a reasonable price, sometimes on sale and free shipping.
Hope this helps you

EDIT: I believe the few extra dollars I spend on the Verbatim disc's out weighs the chances of failed burns and movies that stop playing within a year on my 700-800 plus movies is money well spent.
On a off topic
I will be getting away from burning DVDs soon and storing all my movies on Hard drives and streaming to my TV as this will save me space, and will just put my movies in safe storage.

Yes my friend, it all has to do with $$$ at the moment but I will be following in your steps and countless hours of converting and setting everything up

Hi CBR,
I totally understand what you are saying about quality media, and I only hope that I can find a website where I can buy them reasonable, and on sale, which would be great. Care to share where you get yours? It would be much appreciated. I am so tired of throw away discs, and failed burns.
Thank you for all your help, CBR. When it comes to asking, I'm not afraid, and truly do appreciate, any and all help from the forum. I love my DVDFab program, and have enjoyed using it. I guess we all take the good with the bad, and get discouraged whenever we run into a snag. I will try and find the better media, and see if that solves my issues right off the bat. If not, I'll be back to find out what's next on the agenda. Hope you have a great rest of the night!

Crickkette, pretty much the same tale for me, set off using cheap media that i thaught was good, carried a AA+ type of code to make you believe it was the best, even baught some from Aldi. 4 years on many have failed. In the UK Sainsbury where selling Verbs full face printable for £7.50 for 50 at christmas AZO dye.
Been using nothing but Verbs and Taiyo Yuden for around the last three years, No burn failures at all. Get the odd problem in the last 1-2 minutes of the movie on Taiyo Yuden over the past 12 months but still well worth it.
Amazon seem pretty cheap in the UK, baught most of my disks from them over the past Two years.
If its worth backing up, then back it up on something that will retain it, its simply not worth it skimping, if you can afford the DVD in the first place then debating over a few cents simply does not stack up.

Hi Crickkette
If you are located in the US you can try SuperMediaStore and also
Newegg to name a few.
I have never used the Taiyo Yuden but I think you will want the Premium as far as the Verbatim you will want to purchase the ones that have the AZO dye on the package see pics

Yes, he most certainly is and he should be chastised accordingly.
And a huge thank you to you CB as GregiBoy has finally gotten off my arse
and on yours!!!...
Seriously, Greg has given me some of the best advice I have ever received.
Once you start archiving to hdds and using a media player for playback, you'll never look back...
except maybe to bend over and drop your pants.
Hmmm...seems like I've seen a GregiBoy avatar doing exactly that...

Maineman, YOU are still in my sights as one of my objectives is to get you to catalogue, store, network & back up your media library so that you don't have the 15 USB drives being plugged in and out all the time.
You don't get away that easy!!!
You are correct on the Avatar and it still features on that OTHER forum.....
EEDS and CBR,
Just came back to the forum, and found you here. Thank you both for your input on quality DVDS. I will look to Amazon and to both sites on the net that you gave me, CBR, and see what I can come up with. It gets frustrating, and if these discs will solve my problem, then maybe I'll just have to invest and try it out.
I have been using Memorex lately, and they seem to be burning just fine, but like you said, will this brand hold the data in years to come, but then again, they'll probably come up with something much better, and we won't be using discs anymore. All I know is that I will give your suggestions a good try! *smile
Thanks again, it meant alot that you took the time to write back...
Be well,
Crickkette
