You must UNcheck all the subpicture selection boxes in the lower right window of DVD Ripper. If the disc has forced subs used for translations, leave the stream box checked and put a check in the Display Only forced box just below it. There is no way to get rid of the ones that are already there without redoing the conversion, they are part of the video.

This is the exact same problem that I'm having. Please indulge me so that I can be sure I understand your answer.

If I do this will subtitles still appear when people are speaking a foreign language (eg. X-Men First Class)?

Is there a way that I'm not aware of that will allow me to see if a disc has forced subs used for translations?

Just FYI, my process is to use DVDCopy to burn full disc to my hdd and then DVDRipper to convert file to ipod compatible mp4 utilizing the DVDFab presets.

      Thanks,
      Mike

Download and use DVDSubEdit to inspect the rip on your HDD.

DVDSubEdit will find them without fail and very quickly, just put a check in the box for "Only show forced subpics"; if the video window stays blank, there are no forced subs. If some show up, use the stream selection box to see which stream you need to include and whether you need to check "display only forced" in DVDFab Ripper. Again, onoce they are rendered into the video in the MP4 conversion you can't remove them.
