Cannot Uninstall 8.1.1.2 on Win 7 Toshiba Mini Notebook

Hi,

Tried to update an earlier version of DVDFab yesterday to latest version.

Update installed a new version (possibly partial) which I cannot open without removing the previous one and I can not uninstall it via Add/Remove or with Revo Uninstaller.

The original version was a Qt but not 8.1.1.2 on the Notebook and was an unlicensed version used for HD Decrypter Function.

The 8.1.1.2 upgrade to the licensed version on my Win XP PC worked perfectly.

I also loaded an older version of DVDFab back onto the Notebook and it works fine but the 8.1.1.2 cannot be removed.

The Uninstall screen just hangs and looking via System Explorer I can see DVDFab chewing up CPU resources but it is either the slowest uninstall I have ever seen of it is hung.

Use TaskManager to make sure all aspects of Fab are terminated (not executing), and try the uninstall again. Neither Add/Remove nor Revo will uninstall anything that is still executing.

Double checked this morning with Task Manager and System Explorer. Nothing related to DVDFab is running but Add/Remove and Revo will not uninstall the 8.1.1.2 Qt version.

If I try to install a fresh version of 8.1.1.2 Qt on top of the one already there it just hangs at the Finishing Installation Screen.

So the Uninstall hangs and the Install hangs for 8.1.1.2 Qt. The other older version on the machine is fine.

Maybe I need to uninstall that first? Can not see why but I have no idea what the problem is. This has never happened before.

I have tried doing everything with "run as an administrator" but that also does not work.

Hi laopa,

Please open My Computer and go to c:\Program Files (OR) wherever you installed DVDFab QT, manually delete the DVDFab QT folder, then restart computer to see the result.

I had the same problem installing 8112 on my xp sp3 system. I did a search on this forum and of all the possible fixes I went the easier of all of them. Updated the drivers for my graphics card and it installed like butter. Running beautifully. Hope this helps.

Hi Sunny,

Deleted the Download file and the Programs files. Uninstalled the old 8.08.5 version and cleaned registry with CCleaner, Wise Registry Cleaner, Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, and ATF Cleaner. Closed and rebooted Mini Notebook. Re downloaded 8.1.1.2 QT and tried to installed/ran as an administrator.

All a waste of time, 8.1.1.2 QT DVDFab will not install of the Toshiba Win 7 Mini Notebook.

I will look into Graphic Driver Update issue raised by HIDF but after that I will install an older DVDFab version like 8.08.5 again.

No idea what the problem is but I cannot be the only one out here (apart from HIDEF) with this issue and my PC WinXP SP3 installation worked perfectly.

There are a few of us that had this problem but according to a mod, not many. I just searched can't install and looked for QT, any version. There were other suggestions that helped some people, it just so happened that the driver issue fixed mine. It was a 75mb download and I ran it from the site instead of saving it. Rebooted and then installed 8112QT and it worked.

The Toshiba Mini NoteBook NB255 / 245 has an Intel (R) Graphics Media Accelerator 3150. The Driver that comes with the Toshiba (8.14.10.2117) seems to be a modified version of the original Intel Driver and there is no Update Available from Toshiba and Intel warns against using their Driver in a modified machine.

Anyhoo, I reloaded 8.08.5 DVDFab on the Toshiba and it works fine.

No idea what they have added to the QT versions that makes them apparently very Graphics Driver sensitive. Or what ever else it is?

I had already recently upgrade my NVIDIA Graphics Driver on my Win XP SP3 PC before the latest DVDfab Update and the QT version 8.1.1.2 works fine.

So I guess if it is the driver issue then either DVDFab have to fix it or Toshiba otherwise all of us Toshiba Mini Notebook users are stuffed.

Sorry but I'm only about 25% computer literate. A media accelerator is not a graphics card am I correct? If not I would look into an HD card to install in your mini notebook if its possible. My guess is that this may solve the problem.

Hi,

The 25% would put you way ahead of me. When I run a System Information for Windows (SIW) and look Hardware and then at Video the Intel 3150 is listed as the Video Adapter and Video Processor with the Driver Version is as above.

The Monitor/Screen does not seem to have related drivers.

I do not see any other heading related to Graphics and what gets shown on the screen that would relate to the issue of updating the drivers for NVDIA.

Clearly I get images on the screen and can show videos etc but is what hardware & software controls that related to the QT issue?

As I fundamentally do not understand why QT will not install and the older versions will, I am just shooting in the dark. I thought the comments about updating "drivers" was related to what shows on your screen and the software and hardware that are involved in that process.

If anybody can tell me where to look and what to try to update I will give it a go.

If I really need to install more hardware i.e. a HD Graphics Card to run DVDFab QT then I will have to look for alternative software solutions to replace DVDFab for the Toshiba.

DVDFab will also need to clearly specify this Hardware/Software requirement for potential DVDFab users, if in fact, it is related to being able to run DVDFab QT on your system.

Your manual and documentation that came with your notebook should tell you if you have freed up slots and what type and if your even capable of going the graphics card route.

You are not required to install a different graphics card to use DVDFab. It is unlikely that a notebook or laptop would support one that was not pre-installed, they are usually part of the mainboard. If the graphics adapter that it came with doesn't have a supported chipset or GPU accelerator functions, you won't be able to use these features but DVDFab should still work.

Well that clears that up. If I had to install a Graphics Card to run DVDFab on the Toshiba then I would have opted for a different more user friendly software product.

Plus DVDFab has always run OK on the Toshiba Mini Notebook up until 8.1.1.2 QT.

So we are back to the same old, same old. Why wont DVDFab 8.1.1.2 QT install properly and run on the Toshiba Mini Notebook?

Back to those who may know as I have no clue.
