    Help! Please

Can't seem to post a new question, but it pertains to having trouble with the new QT also so I'm adding to this post. I have been a DVDFab user for years and this latest update has me stumped. I can run 8.0.5 but then I can't rip Thor, so I HAVE to upgrade. I can't seem to get it to finish installing, it freezes on the "finalizing installation" and now I can't remove it, it hangs on the removing showing no progress at all. I have tried all of the advice I have seen, I am logged on as administrator I have turned off antivirus, I have tried add/remove programs, I have used CCleaner, I have rebooted countless times, I have deleted manually and removed in regedit (every version that was in there). I have let it run overnight seeing if I was just being impatient. Quite frustrating!! The only way I can get ot to not be frozen (install and remove)is to end process in Task Manager or hard shut down.

    Any ideas????

Have you tried booting into safe mode and removing the program from there, you get into safe mode by tapping F8 while you system is booting.

do you have any codec packs installed on your machine? do you have any similar to DVDFab software installed?

I hadn't even thought about booting in Safe mode. Did that, was finally able to uninstall DVDFab. Rebboted in regular and was still unable to install it without it hanging again. Rebooted back into Safe mode, uninstalled again and Installed while in Safe Mode. Now that I've loaded normally, when I double click DVDFab, nothing happens. I tried it a couple of times, waiting in between, nothing happened. WHen I went to Task Manager, I had 4 processes of it running.

And I don't know if any codecs loaded. I haven't done anything recently. Years ago I had bought a program to convert movies for a Zune. But DVDFab has always worked until this latest upgrade.

              Attaching log as requested.

Try going to Add / Remove Programs, remove 8.0.8.5 and any other versions of DVDFab you find there, reboot and then install 8.1.2.0. This should work.

Uninstall DVDFab via safe mode again then reboot back into normal mode and try re running the installer file by right clicking first the choose run as administrator.
Always a good thing to do after uninstalling a program is run something like Ccleaner to help remove any leftovers.

Sorry, I haven't been ignoring. Been trying what you said and it didn't work, so I've been going into Safe mode doing a defrag, CCLeaner, chkdsk, still doing the same thing. I can uninstall in Safe Mode but when I try to Install (even redownloaded making sure I didn't have a bad copy) it hangs on the very end of the installation. I am getting a memory error when I uninstall in Safe mode which I will try to do a screen capture in a moment. I keep doing it and not saving it before I reboot. I guess I'll have to settle on the last DVDFab until the next upgrade. Guess Thor is off my list :-( .

Unless I missed it you didn't mention anything about graphic card drivers. Upgrade these. This solved my problem that was exactly as yours. After removing in safe mode, reboot. I ran ccleaner (remove internet files etc. and then ran the registry portion). I then ran esuing reg. cleaner. I then defragged the hard drive. I then ran my upgrade of my graphic drivers directly from the web site of my card. QT version then installed like butter.

Darn it I got excited. Especially when I went to the web site and actually found an update. But to no avail. After all my defragging and chkdsk stuff though, I am able to uninstall without going into Safe Mode now. But still hangs on Install. Thanks HIDEF for the suggestion.

And thanks everybody for the suggestions! I guess I'm about to throw the towel in. I can't think of anything else to try except wait for a new update with DVDFab and maybe I won't have a problem.

Dang computers! Can't live with them and can't live without them!

I'm forwarding this to you again. I never had to boot into Safe Mode. If you have ANY other versions of DVDFab on your system it causes a problem with 8.1.1.9.

Do a search in this forum for can't install. Look for the QT suggestions. There are a few. It just so happened the graphic drivers solved mine. I'm running Win XP sp3.

Make sure to run the installer from a downloaded file on your hard drive and run it using the Run-> "As Administrator" option.
