It sounds like the dreaded registration key/UAC not sticking problem.
If he follows the instruction in that thread I indicated, it should resolve it.

As I said, read the "Registration Key Problems" thread and follow the instructions precisely.

like maineman said but the key might not have registered correctly and if you request and try a new key it should work for you. You do not have to buy a new key just request a new one to be sent to you as that is free and would be sent to your email immediately as wellComment
