    Rip to HD not DVD

    Hi:

I've been a DVDFAB user for many years and have always used the "copy full movie" to a DVD-R disc. I now want to copy the movie to my HD and ultimately to a thumb/flash drive for playback in a stand alone DVD player but am at a loss as to the process.

Can anybody tell me if this can be done and if yes, what settings must I use?

I am currently using DVDFab 8.1.6.3.

Just select the folder next to "Target" and browse to the drive where you want to save the folder containing the movie.

      Hi papaboy

      I may be wrong.

As my friend said it can be done, just make sure that the movie is not over 4Gb, as most flash drives are formatted as Fat32 which have a 4Gb file size limit.

The only way around this is to format the drive as NTFS file system.

        Hi 90312:

I tried what you suggest. Using the DVDCopy full disc option, I designated the output/target path to a folder on my HD. After inserting the DVD Movie, it continued cycling and did not stop to begin the rip. I had to cancel. Is or are there other settings I need to change?

          Hi CBR929:

My flash drive has a 16 gig capacity.

Post the DVDFab internal log session from this attempt. You can write the folders to a flash drive but it is not really recommended as the thumb drive can't write as fast as a hard disc and will slow down the copy process. The unending scanning is not related to the target settings.

papaboy, read this thread it will better explain my directions. Like signals said I would set the target to the hard drive then move it to the USB flash drive. As long as you use full disk or main movie the format won't make a difference, but if you make a single file larger than 4GB like a VOB pass through for instance is where that could be an issue.

                Hi Signals:

Copy of Internal log as per your request. The final entry on each attempt indicates "Start Notice Successful" but all I saw was the continuing scanning of the DVD.

                  Hi papaboy
Please update your Fab to the newest version found here http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=17306

Did you receive any kind of error, logs do not show any?

Please post new log using the newest version.

It may be a 16GB flash drive but may still be formatted as Fat 32.

I'm going to try this on my flash drive.

A 16GB USB flash drive will hold a move ripped as full disk even if it is formatted FAT32 because no single file in the folder exceeds the 4GB limit.

                      Hi Again Signals:
Immediately after sending the logs, I cleaned the DVD and it scanned OK. I was able to rip to a targeted file directory, then went back and tried to compress the files but could not find a way. I used DVDShrink and created a new out folder for the compressed files.

Next, I returned to DVDFab selected the compressed file folder as source and the flash drive as target, hit the start button and the following pop up window message appeared:

"There is no need to copy Full Disc between folders without compression.
                      Do you want to continue"

Just drag and drop or copy and paste the folder to the USB drive.

Done that and when I tried playback in my stand alone dvd player, the menu displayed all the video-ts and audio-ts files. This endeavor is obviously beyond my ken. There is something I am not doing correctly. I think I should stick with DVD-R media.

Well I tried it and the first time my Blu-Ray player gave an error for unsupported file.

After reading my manual I discovered it did not support NTFS file system, only Fat 12,16,and 32 format and that it would play DivX,MP3, and JPEG files.

I formatted my drive to Fat 32 converted Transformers Dark of the Moon to generic.avi.divx.audiocopy, it worked like a dream.

Try reading your manual on the file system it supports and also any format the file needs to be in .

                              HI Again CBR929:

My drive is a formated FAT 32 and accepted my my player. As I said to Signals, I copied and pasted the folder to the flash drive but it did not convert the Video-TS files. The only option I seem to have is to burn to a disc to get the video. How did you convert your files before copying to your flash drive?
