    Other set top box

I noticed YOUR set top box is out.

Toooo Bad you decided to put a USB 2.0 on it, instead of a USB 3.0.

You could have set yourself apart from ALL the other players out there.

It does appear to cost less than other players, with the same features.

    I am truley disappointed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why be disappointed? The throughput of remuxed BR video falls well within USB 2.0 specs so why add something that will cost more and is unnecessary. All USB 3.0 drives are backward compatible so there is no probs using them.

Or do you have BFBM syndrome from the marketeers? (Bigger, Faster, Better, More)

      Hi GregiBoy,

I do NOT know what BFBM means.

When it comes to the specs of Media Players, I believe YOU know more in that area than I do.

I will ask you this, H.265 is coming out soon.
If YOU had the Choice to use H.264 or H.265, which would YOU choose to use ??????

If YOU say H.264 I would be surprised.

      The same with USB 3.0.

If I was having a Media Player built why would I NOT use USB 3.0.

You know USB 3.0 is faster, ect.

NO other Media Player has USB 3.0, people looking for a Media Player would see the USB 3.0, and that could be the tipping point on which Media Player to get.

For example, I have a WD Media Player, I see NO Reason to spend more money, on another USB 2.0.

I did NOT get a chance to tell you this earlier, that I hope you had a Good Christmas and New Years.

BFBM = Bigger. Faster, Better, More

Re H265: I can't see me swapping over to it for a long, long time as the hardware that I have will not support it. IMHO, it gives similar quality to H264 at lower bitrates (ie: smaller file size). I think what will happen will be similar to what has happened wit XVid/H264 with both being used for a long time.

USB 3.0 Vs USB 2.0: It would add to the production cost of the unit in a very cost-competive marketplace for no real benefit although I see it eventually seeping through as USB 3.0 chipsets achieve the same price level as USB 2.0...

I know that it's faster, yada, yada, yada but the cost differential vs functionality is not there at the moment.

The VidOn.Me is not a STB, but maybe there will be one in the lineup in the future.

I did NOT know USB 3.0 was that much more expensive.

Maybe that will be the same with H265 at least for awhile.

there is a media player with usb, i think its the micca 950. but i dont know if its available atm could have been discontinued.

That said usb sometimes has hard ware malfunctions atm. like several 1tb usb powered hard drives, the touro 1tb i have works great but under usb3.0 sometimes disconnects during large(50gig bluray) files or bulk medium(dvd) files or bulk 150 gig worth of media files. while the disconnection didnt happen when i tryed it on usb 2.0, it did it several times on usb3.0.

2 of the same touro 1tb both with simular issues for it. they work well tho otherwise.

The set top box has been released, it will ship in February. There is a forum for it now with the other hardware stuff, near the bottom of the forums list on the mainpage.
