You have a very philosophical approach. You are correct that there is no switch to turn off update checking, I have requested that one be added. You need to leave on-the-fly checked, it prevents problems if you have or install an on-the-fly decrypter.

It never occurred to me to look at logs (I forgot it generated them)

          This bit looks interesting:
          Code:
0m 03.42s: Init profile data driver sucessful.
0m 03.42s: Init GPU settings sucessful.
0m 56.56s: Begin init preview play engine.
0m 56.56s: Init DirectShow engine successful.
1m 45.51s: Init burn engine successful.
All 3 machines tested are win7 64bit with NVidia GPUs.

Tip: start DVDFab with no discs in scanned optical drives.

Doesn't make any difference here. Doesn't deal with the disc until the program interface shows.

Thanks for the tip; however there are no cases where I have started up with a disc in drive. Useful to keep in mind though...

Any followup up to this? Has anyone else encountered this issue?
I have 100mb internet connection, but startup is stupidly slow still.
Downloading updates is a joke - the rest of the world comes in at somewhere between 1 to 8 mb per second. Dvdfab: 10-20kb per second.
                  Am I the only one???
                  I am Optus network Australia.
Anyone else use Optus and DVDfab?
                  What is your experience?

Yep, I'm on Optus and have absolutely no problem.

I'm in USA and DvDFab 9.0.5.5 only takes 6 seconds to start on my computer with no disks in the drive.

The download for v9060 was on a different server and was much faster here (USA), about 600KB/sec. There were some issues with downloads of the two previous Betas which seem to be corrected. My opening speed for 9058 and 9060 is the same, 10.7 seconds, not lightning fast but bearable given all that is going on.

If you have slow startup, post the complete internal log as Fengtao requested.

I just installed version 9.0.6.0 and was pleasantly surprised how fast it started, under 4 seconds

The new version was down to about a minute from 1 1/2 minutes before on startup for me.

I suspect a lot has to do with the type of internet connection you have and where yoru live. If you are running Windows start cmd window, then type "ping www.dvdfab.com" -- that will tell you how long it takes for something to go to dvdfab server and return to your computer. In my case it was about 63 milliseconds.

New version, for me, is actually taking longer to start up than previous version did.
