Issues with manual

Anyone else having issues with the PDF manual? I know it's probably been translated from an asian language, but has anyone looked into updating it into proper english?

I find myself having to interpret the text. I'm sure most of you know what i mean.

But even more so than the interpretation issues, for the noob, such as I there are gaps in the information. The writers assume we know many of the terms and what they mean, such as CODEC, aac, MP4 etc.

For example, page 23 talks about sub titles. The manual just lists the types, but fails to let us know what the differences are. One could try each of them, but who wants to go thru converting a blu-ray 3 times to see the differences?

I also have a hard time knowing basic processes. Why can't I use CONVERTER to convert a DVD to MP4 for my tablet? Why do I have to use RIPPER? What the difference?

So a index or glossary of terms and thier meanings would be great. So would and explanation of terns used as well as perhaps a generalized use index would be very handy.

I'm not complaining, just what I noticed as a paid member of DVDFab9. I think as I read thru the manual, I will make notes and maybe update this post. If someone has this manual as a word document, I'd be happy to give it the once over. I've worked with a technical publications department and written many service manual procedures for the company I work for.

There was a time in the past when most DVDFab users came to the product with a fair degree of basic knowledge of the proesses involved. As the popularity of the product has spread I think that is not so much the case anymore, and you are probably right that their should be an introductory guide for those truly new to all of this.

Video Converter, for instance, is not designed to process DVD or Blu-ray structured input. It does not remove copy protections or act on the DVD-Video virtual machine files that are contained on each disc. It is designed for converting say, MP4 files to AVI or some other file format. The Copy and Ripper modules process the disc authored content.

I am not sure what you are referring to concerning subtitles, I have not read the manual in some time. I will look it over and see if some improvements are in order.

Thanks for taking my comment seriously and for understanding I meant no disrespect to our friends at Fentao. They did a much better job in English than I would in thier language!

I believe you hit the nail on the head, as the popularity of software grows, you will inevidably attract and get less technical people purchacing and using the software. The manual from my noob knowledge assumes a certain level of understanding that I do not have...YET!

The statement you made above (in bold), is exactly the kind of information that I would like to know and would hope be found in the manual.

What I mean by subtitles is this, I don't know what the options mean, or what the words RENDER, REMUX or EXTRACT mean or do as far as my video is concerned.

I know i'm a noob, but I would be willing to help out if I can.

On the subtitle issue:-

Render = Render the subtitle as part of the video stream, ie: It becomes part of the image and cannot be turned on/off and is usually used when the target playback device is brain-dead. I quite often use this to burn-in "forced" subtitles when they are present. (subs that show when a foreign language to the original is spoken and translation is required)

Remux = Takes the original subtitle stream and builds it into the resultant file as a subtitle stream. Most good playing devices will allow you to turn the subs on/off by pressing a key.

Extract = Is exactly the same as remux except the sub stream is "extracted" to a separate file(s) eg DVD = sub/idx, BR = PGS and most players allow you to turn this on/off by loading the file whilst playing the video file.
