I was hoping someone could help me out with this as searching hasn't yielded an answer.
I've been using the most recent version of DVDFab v8 to make backup copies of a large amount of DVDs I purchased from a liquidation sale. They range in age from a just a few weeks to several years old. I typically make the backup using full disc mode. I understand the difference between the DVD5 and DVD9 selection (I think) in that the DVD5 selection will cause DVDFab to compress the disc itself to fit in the amount of space available on a single layer disc.
My question is in regards to the DVD9 option. I was under the impression that this option is for copying the disc with NO compression. However, many of the discs I've gone to back up show a compression percentage and seem to indicate the disc will be compressed. (For example, I had one disc and it listed 43% 18.24gig -> 8100MB)
Am I correct in assuming that even though I selected DVD9 it IS compressing the ripped data? If so, why is this? Is it something to do with the type of protection? Is DVD9 technically not a "No Compression" option but rather similar to DVD5 and it "Fits" to a Dual Layer Disc? This would make sense if it had to do with the copy protection on the disc and said protection was fooling the program into thinking there really was 18 plus gigs on the disc.
I've noticed that this happens more on my newer movies. Additionally, as a side note, I figured I was using an outdated version and purchased the DVDFab v9 and in almost all instances, this did not happen with the same movie.
Any thoughts? I'm just curious.
Thanks in advance.
